The Movie DB... do you use it?

Before I heard of this place, I heard of themoviedb.org

What I didn't like is that every board was a clean slate. I started a thread saying that everyone needs to put up posts on movies they know just to get the ball rolling. It helped.

But then I found this place, with its imported messages from IMDB (except actors) I think it made people more inclined to respond to a post or start their own.

But I don't want themoviedb to die, so I still post there, and if I want to look up the cast of a movie, because I have boycotted imdb, I will search in google 'cast (movie name) themoviedb.org. Google brings it right up so I don't have to look far.

Anyway, do you use the page?

That site design is too 'busy' there if you get me...
Too many graphics/info boxes/feels like im reading Entertainment Weekly at the dentist appointment..fuck that!
I like this place-its mean, plain, maybe even ugly and boring...but i like this dump of ours
I will build my empire HERE!

You took the words out of my mouth. It's trying way too hard to look slick.

Sure I post at tmdb. It's a classy place. The posters there are more mature. The mods are fair.

This place has no integrity. The mods have favorites. They allow bullying. Members gang up on you and there is a loop hole in the system that allows other members to harass and bully others via private messaging. You can't report it either. I contacted the site to report abusive private messages and was told there was nothing they could do for me because the abuser was a lurker. I was told to ignore the person. I would hate for a bunch of trolls to take advantage of that weakness in the system. It would be way too easy for a group of trolls or a super troll to create a bunch of accounts and use them to harass other members via private messaging since there is no way to report abusive private messages. Imdb had the feature and you would think that as much as this site tries so hard to be like Imdb including borrowing its layout, board topics and archived posts, that it would also give its members an option to report abusive private messages like Imdb did.

But that's how this place is. So I spend more time at tmdb than I do here.

reply

I agree, the movie comments there are more mature.

I am a member too,but i can't even login with my username.

reply

Well at least there I can use my full username, which is 'intothenightalone', not just 'intothenight'.

Cheers,mate😉

I don't use it. Don't like the UI/UX and they don't have the imdb discussion archives.

reply

I became a member back when the IMDb boards closed, but I haven't bothered to use the place much if at all. I began to gravitate more to this place and now this is the only place I go besides a film-related Reddit.

I too preferred the fact that this place had all the imported film and discussion boards content.

I hear the moderators there are assholes and strict. Also, I hate the look of that site. The colour scheme is too flashy and changes with different movie pages you're on, the navigation is strange (a separate tab to go to the discussions), too much spacing in threads. The ONLY way I would go to that site, is if this one went down for some reason and there were no half-decent alternatives.

Typical response from someone who likes this place. You guys will gang up on anything just to get your way even going as far as starting rumors. You want tmdb to fail so that people would be forced to post here having to deal with you. Tmdb isn't anymore flasher than imdb. It's just that Travis cares about how his site looks, being fair and not allowing bullying or trolling. The owner here only cares about making money.

I like the look of the page and the like button is cool. I like this page as well, mostly because it's so bare over there. I'm still posting there because I think it should be kept going.

reply

That like button is cool. Travis added a new feature that when you hover your mouse over it, it displays the name of the member who liked your post.

Saying it isn't any flashier is subjective. Who are you to tell me what I think of the look of the site? And I like how you say we're spreading rumours about tmdb and then say the owner here is only interested in making money as if you have some proof. Also, I never said the moderators there ARE assholes, I said I HEARD they were.

reply

You have a right to your opinion. It's fine that tmdb isn't your type of place for whatever reason I guess. The mods don't bother me. I see one of them that posts a lot on the individual boards and she's really nice.

reply

It was the first place I went to and I posted something on the boards of all my favourite movies and shows, but I just didn't get any responses. I don't get much responses here either, but at least this place has the old IMDb threads.
