I watched Law & Order for the first time this past week, I was always a huge NCIS fan, but after watching Law & Order I went back to NCIS, and it was like watching a really bad cartoon, never realized how bad that show really is, DiNozzo never shuts up, Gibbs has the personality of a dead rat, ducky belongs on the table, Palmer is an idiot, I applaud the writers for making Abby the most ridiculous character on any TV show, Bishop is as exiting as sleeping monkey, and the only reason Tim is on that show is b/c of his step dad.

Is Law & Order:SVU the only one left? I remember really liking the original. It was Benjamin Bratt and Jerry Orbach when I first tuned in. I don't think I've ever watched any NCIS, but aren't there 3 of those?

yes there are 3, Law & Order SVU - Law & Order Criminal Intent and I think just Law & Order, could be wrong there,

I mean t 3 NCIS..new york, miami and ???
and I thought the only Law & Order still running was Special Victims Unit. I could be wrong though. I still can't understand why SVU is so popular. Well I can, but I hate the thought.

There wasn't a NCIS: Miami. It was CSI: Miami; a Spin-off of CSI, which also begat CSI:NewYork, and Cyber

Law and Order LA, and Law and Order UK I haven't even heard of. I forgot about CSI. Yeah they can all get a little confusing! Lots for people to watch though. :D

Law and Order: LA had a short run. Who knows why it was discontinued?:( I enjoyed all of the Law and Order series, but apparently it didn't have the audience needed.

I'm definately going to try and find some episodes of Law & Order: LA just to check it out.

Where is Law & Order: Canada? haha.

Daisy.... like I said before, I'm only a week into watching the show, never saw it before, but got hooked on it, and I only watch reruns on USA, didn't even know if it's still running, it doesn't matter to me b/c I still have 20 years of episodes I haven't watched yet. haven't watched Criminal intent yet, anyone know if it's any good?
kspkap is right about NCIS locations, I actually like NOLA best of the 3,

After Law and Order (the original) Criminal Intent was my favorite. To watch the character of Det. Robert Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) work his suspects was a treat to be hold! Afterwords...well, I would just say "Whew! What an interrogation technique he has." I definitely looked forward to those scenes of each episode. But, there was a dark and private side to Det. Goren.

As for NCIS: New Orleans, it's our least favorite. We stopped watching it last season. With that said, I've never missed an episode of the aforementioned in my prior post.

thanks for the info kspkap, gives me a reason to watch "Criminal Intent" as far as NOLA, never liked Persey, she was way too annoying and stopped watching but when they picked up Gregorio, I kinda liked her so I started to watch again, it was more serious than Gibbs and company which really got sickening,
PS, I'll let you know how CI is when I watch it.

I'll reinforce kspkap's comments that Criminal Intent is great and Goren is one of the most intriguing television detectives.

Another series I've followed for years and have seen every episode; at least I think so.

well, I've got 20 years of episodes to catch up on, so I guess it's buh bye NCIS, lol,
last night I set it to auto-record, can't wait to see the first Criminal Intent, I think there are
a couple already recorded
BTW, the only episodes I ever watched were SVU, they were really good.

I agree with you in regards to NCIS, the Mark Harmon as Gibbs series. We throughly looked forward to each episode, but it has definitely withered on the vine. IMO, I believe it started going off the rails when the character of Ziva (Cote de Pablo) left the show. The death knell tolled when Dinozzo (Michael Weatherly) left. Now it's all fluff! As it stands we don't care if we miss an episode!

BTW, if you've never seen Mark Harmon when he played Ted Bundy in "The Deliberate Stranger" (1986) you have missed the best performance, IMO, Mark Harmon has given. Thinking about it still creeps me!

Are you watching them in order or mixed up? I loved the Ben Bratt and Jerry Orbach ones the best, but like I had said that is who the detectives were when I started watching. Yah I'm pretty sure its cancelled now but as you said there are years of episodes to watch! I've never seen Criminal Intent before either.

I jump around just to get the feel of the show, but I am going to start watching them in order, now that I know it's the best alternative to NCIS,
I watched 3 episodes of Criminal Intent, didn't like it as much as SVU, so I'm just going to stay with that one, 20 years of episodes should last me till 2056, lol

Yeah that's the type of show you can jump around with anyways as there was barely any story arc (the original) for the characters lives that I can remember. I am dying to watch some reruns now!! :)

I don't like SVU at all, I find the topics too upsetting, but that's just me. I think I have watched maybe 2 episodes at most.

I liked it much better with the original cast including Jerry Orbach (deceased), Christopher Meloni, and Angie Harmon as the ADA (one tough cookie!). I don't know why Mariska Hargitay has let herself go to being downright sloppy. She used to be so pretty and neat. The topics may be disturbing, but there are evil people in real life. Law and Order is based on actual occurrences though shaded to the events. Look for the story arc involving her kidnapping and assault by a serial killer. The ordeal had a lasting psychological effect on her...and me! Great acting! She pulled you right into her traumatic event.

I don't really know the story arc, so can't really comment on that. I do realize that stuff happens in real life, wish we didn't live in such a terrible world! It was like a certain scene on the Sopranos one time with his therapist.. not sure I even finished the show after that. But don't get me wrong I watch all sorts of crazy stuff in horror movies and stuff so not sure why that tv show bothers me so much. I guess its because that is the basis for SVU and you know that's what the story will be about.

My granddaughter watches horror movies & tv, because she knows it's fake as long as animals aren't involved. But, real life or tv programs taken from real life she can't handle. As for me, no horror movies. They are too graphic! I don't like godzilla movies and I've never seen Jaws.

The SVU story arc about Olivia's ordeal with William Lewis (character creeped me big time!) evolves over several episodes. FYI as follows:

Your granddaughter sounds like she has the same kind of watching habits as me. Even those true crime shows make me anxious. Maybe yes its because its not the far from reality or is reality I don't know. Yes, I watch less horror movies than I used to but American Horror Story is still one of my favorite shows.

I'm not sure about the story line you are talking about since I don't watch but I'll check out the links. Thanks. :)

And its so funny how I can watch people get killed in a movie but freak out if they touch an animal. Thats why I never like when they have a dog in a horror movie, you just know that's not going to end well. LOL

I think we are just more desensitized to seeing people get hurt than animals? Must be something like that anyway. But yes kids are way brutal too. :(

Are you sure you aren't my granddaughter? She can take a whole slew of people being killed in a movie, but if there is a dog she says " Oh please not the dog." She dearly loves her 3 dogs and 2 cats. She also watches "Walking Dead". "But, they ate a horse!"; I said. "It was fake." was her response.

I used to watch NCIS regularly and got seriously burned-out on it. I can't say enough about how much I detest the character of Gibbs, Mr. cold and in control, macho ex-Marine. He's so repetitive, robotic and predictable in how he charges through a scene with that stupid styrofoam cup in his hand, as if it's meant to be a significant trademark prop attached to his overglorified character. And then there's the predictable impatience and irritability he displays whenever he's checking on the status of a case, especially with Abby. And the trite expression, " You think, DiNozzo....? " Anyway, you get the idea.

Law & Order on the other hand, is a fine, quality and enduring program. I've been watching it for years. The only problem I have with it is finding an episode I haven't seen yet.

he's in control of that show, which is probably why Michael Wheaterly quit,
I just started watching the Law & Order, I have it on auto record, and there are 80 episodes I haven't seen yet, lol
USA plays them all day long, so I'm good for a year or 2

Michael Weatherly said that he left because he got tired of playing a character as immature as Dinozzo now that he's older.

NCIS is an absolutely ridiculous show. I'm going with Law & Order, but only the earlier years of the original show.

I've been a Law & Order fan forever. I've watched NCIS but couldn't really get into it although I like NCIS: New Orleans

L&O by a mile! It was intelligent and had compelling characters. Especially loved the early years with Michael Moriarty and Jerry Orhback/Chris Noth!
