ATM: A film discussion group (Information, Sign Up and Roster)

Hello, all!

Here you’ll find the basic information and roster for the AMT (At The Movies) film discussion group.

Basically, we pick a movie and discuss it.

What you need to know:

- We do the picking of the film in alphabetical order of the members’ names in the roster;
- We make a new film pick every two weeks (every other Sunday/Monday);
- The new picks are announced in the thread designated for them in GD;
- After you announce your pick in GD, open a thread on that film’s board.
- The discussions are open forever. There is no time limit when you can comment, and you don’t need to be a member to join in.
- If you want to become a member and participate in the picking of the movies, add you interest in this thread (as a reply to the OP, so that I see it), and we’ll add you to the roster;
- Members inactive for a long period of time would be removed from the roster. When they want/can resume, they will be added back in!

Now, we do try to pick movies that are going to be available to most members internationally. Youtube seems to work best and has a wide variety of movies. But if it’s not available there, I suppose we can make that work as well.

As I said, anyone is free to join the discussions or the clubs itself, so feel free to sign up, or just participate in the discussions. There is also no time limit for the discussions! Those are open whenever you can comment (beyond the initial two weeks). But do follow the two week schedule for announcing the new film picks!

We will be discussing on the film specific boards, so do check there for the discussion threads themselves (for example, if The Shining is picked, go to its board).

Happy discussing!

Yes please Mina 😊

Welcome aboard, Dazed! :)

Hmm. I'm thinking of joining. Not entirely sure yet. I'll start off by commenting on films I've seen that you guys pick, and if it seems like we have similar tastes for movies, I might officially join. If that makes sense.

reply

It does make sense! The members have a variety of tastes, so I'm sure you'll find something to your liking in some of the picks. Let us know if/when you decide to join fully :).

reply

Will do. c;

reply

I'm joining...

reply

Welcome aboard! I've added you to the roster :).

reply

Glad to see this! I believe I'll still hang back for just a little while, but I will join in the discussions of the films I enjoy.
So glad to see this group offering everyone a chance to get in on the discussions. This is such a great idea! Now we can involve more people on the individual boards. I love it!

reply

I'm glad you like it MissMargo! Enjoy the discussions, and when you want to be added to the roster, let us know :).

reply

I was going to ask if something like this was on this website, so neat to see. I'm not going to officially join yet either though. So the only difference in joining and not joining is that you don't get to pick the movie? Will it have a set genre for a round or anything like this? Very neat engaging idea though. :D

reply

Right now you can pick whatever you want. Anybody can participate in talking about the movie.
Yes, the only real difference is if you join you get to pick a movie. Of course if you don't join you will
never find out the secret handshake and password. So make your decisions wisely.
A great way for a group to talk about a movie and maybe find some classic you never saw.

reply

Oh great. 😐As if the old way of choosing whatever movie you feel like watching wasn't good enough. Now you have to be in a group that votes on which movies they watch.
Count me out because I'm not going to allow someone else to decide which movies I should watch and discuss. There is also a strong possibility that we don't share the same taste in movies, so I don't wanna be stuck watching something that I probably would never watch anyway.

reply

It's okay if you don't feel like this is for you. I just want to mention that all of this is voluntary. Noone is obliged to see anything they don't have an interest in, also we don't vote on the movies we see. Think of it as movie recommendations from friends :).

reply

Well okay. I'll try it. Sign me up.

reply

Alright! I've added you to the roster.

reply

Why thank you very much.😀

reply

Okay, I've thought it over, Mina, and as long as there's no requirement to watch any of the suggested films I have no interest in watching, count me in :)

reply

Thank you, godewey! It helps a lot to know I don't have to feel obligated to watch if it's a film I have no interest in at all, the loose two-week time period, plus the no time period at all as far as responding to the threads, or anyone having to be a member, so to speak, to participate.

Looking forward to it now :)

reply

Welcome, Cat! I've added you to the roster. :)

reply

Thanks, Mina! Seeing as my name begins with a C, I'd best start thinking of a film that's available on YouTube :)

reply

Thanks, Mina!

reply

I'd like to join you. Do we discuss the movie on its title page?

reply

Yes, we discuss all movies on their own pages. I'll add you to the roster. Feel free to check out the other thread /linked in the OP/ that deals with the picks. Also you can always join any previous discussions.

Welcome.

reply

Thanks Mina! I'll go to that page.

Thanks! I'm happy to join! I wrote something on the page I'm not sure how you discuss he movie so I just put whatever came to mind.

reply

Oh boy, leave it to me. I think when you mentioned the group, I read whatever was on it that day. Well, no worries, I got to enjoy a movie I probably never would have known about! So, I'll try that again!

I will woman up and watch it soon!

No, it wouldn't have gone over well. Yes, it is a thing, if I say it is a thing. Women do stuff too, you know!

I don't think you could ever be accused of being the " keep them pregnant and in the kitchen " type, dewey. 😁

reply

Yeah, that's a handy disclaimer. Nip it in the bud, CYA, so to speak.😉

reply

You did exactly right, and I loved reading your thoughts on it!

I have to take responsibility for some of this as it was my pick, and I didn't participate on the thread. I was in the midst of planning a cross-country road trip when my turn came up. Bad timing.

reply

Hey, it's your turn to pick a movie :)

Also, for some reason I get an error message when I try to PM you.

reply

Hi Mina! I've heard from other people too that they couldn't PM me. I'm not sure why. I did write an email to Jim but I guess it never got fixed. Would it be appropriate to pick a short film? That way it won't be too hard for some people to find the time.

reply

Hey Dewey! I put it on the other page where our picks are. Thanks for the encouragement! Hope you like it. It's Six Shooter by Martin McDonagh. He's dark, but funny.

reply

Oh good! I'm a big fan of In Bruges. I'm a really big fan of Brendan Gleeson's ever since I saw The General, the John Boorman movie. I created a post on the page.
