Americans, your favorite 4th of July memory?

My favorite July 4th memory is our family 'float' in the local parade. The theme was sports and my role was to wear ice skates and winter wear (sweater, mittens, etc!) and sit at the point of the bow of our boat with my legs dangling over the edge. My five siblings represented other sports such as fishing, baseball, tennis, etc. and were stationed in other spots in the boat.

In the evening we attended the local fireworks display at the local park where they were launched over the lake. The neighboring town timed their display to take place after our town's had ended. There was enough time to travel to the other town so that we got to see two displays.

When I would go upstairs to my parent's master bedroom and watch the fireworks in the pitch black.

The popping of balloons and bursting of firecrackers makes me jump and so I was kind of scared into it. I have the ears of an elephant, very sensitive.

When our kids were younger we would do this about every 4th of July for two or three days. I miss doing it now that they are older.

Some of the places we went would show family movies after dark. Sit under the stars with snacks watching movies. Then after the movie we would go back to our campsite and roast marshmallows over our campfire. Great memories.

LOL. Sometimes but not always they would have fireworks and shoot them out over the lake. That was an added bonus to our camping trip!

Sweater and mitten on July 4! You must have been boiling!

My favorite was probably in college, going to the fireworks with a bunch of friends in San Francisco (in the 80's when they used to be on Crissy Field) and dropping acid.

dropping acid? lol, I did acid once, when I was driving on the freeway I thought I was in a stagecoach and Indians were chasing us on horseback, my brain was going bonkers, needless to say, that was the first and last time for acid, but it's something I'll never forget,

I don't think I'd do it now, but it was fun then.

I didn't know I took it, I was 22 and stupid, a friend said "here, take this" I said OK, not knowing what it was, found out later and that ended the friendship.

My husband and I worked at our local newspaper many years ago. He was a pressman and I worked in the mail room. This was shortly before we were married.
We had gone to the street dance downtown. We'd had a few to drink so we were feeling pretty fine.
He told me he had a key to the building where we worked. That building looked out over the river where the fireworks took place. Hundreds of people lined that riverbank. We went over to the Tribune building and found the door that led to the roof. We fooled around up there while the fireworks blasted around us.
We would have done more, but we decided we didn't want to take the chance of being caught on camera. We might have ended up on the news!
I will never forget that 4th of July!
