Warren Zevon- Keep Me in Your Heart

Shadows are falling and I'm running out of breath
Keep me in your heart for awhile
If I leave you it doesn't mean I love you any less
Keep me in your heart for awhile

When you get up in the morning and you see that crazy sun
Keep me in your heart for awhile
There's a train leaving nightly called when all is said and done
Keep me in your heart for awhile

Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile

Sometimes when you're doing simple things around the house
Maybe you'll think of me and smile
You know I'm tied to you like the buttons on your blouse
Keep me in your heart for awhile

Hold me in your thoughts, take me to your dreams
Touch me as I fall into view
When the winter comes keep the fires lit
And I will be right next to you

Engine driver's headed north to Pleasant Stream
Keep me in your heart for awhile
These wheels keep turning but they're running out of steam
Keep me in your heart for awhile

Does it have to have pretty lyrics? Cause I love Mad World by Gary Jules, but I'm not sure if lyrics is good enough for this topic:

reply

I consider it a beautiful, moving, haunting song.

reply

I'm glad you agree :)

reply

It just has to be considered beautiful by the beholder!

Great song,nice choice.

reply

Great song, written and originally performed by Tears for Fears.

One of the '70s Greatest Singers:Gordon Lightfoot
There's a sorrowful personal story behind this....isn't there most of the time?

"If You Could Read My Mind"

If you could read my mind love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie
About a ghost from a wishing well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
You know that ghost is me
And I will never be set free
As long as I'm a ghost you can see

If I could read your mind love
What a tale your thoughts could tell
Just like a paperback novel
The kind the drugstore sells
When you reach the part where the heartaches come
Come the hero would be me
Heroes often fail
And you won't read that book again
Because the ending's just to hard to take

I walk away like a movie star
Who gets burned in a three way script
Enter number two, a movie queen
To play the scene of bringing all the good things out in me
But for now love let's be real

I never knew I feel this way
And I've got to say that I just don't get it
I don't know where we went wrong
But the feeling's gone and I just can't get it back

If you could read my mind love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie about a ghost from a wishing well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
The story always ends
And if you read between the lines
You'll know that I'm just trying to understand
The feeling that you left

I never knew I feel this way
And I've got to say that I just don't get it
I don't know where we went wrong
But the feeling's gone
And I just can't get it back

You Needed Me- Anne Murray

I cried a tear, you wiped it dry
I was confused, you cleared my mind
I sold my soul, you bought it back for me
And held me up and gave me dignity
Somehow you needed me

You gave me strength to stand alone again
To face the world out on my own again
You put me high upon a pedestal
So high that I could almost see eternity
You needed me, you needed me

And I can't believe it's you I can't believe it's true
I needed you and you were there
And I'll never leave, why should I leave, I'd be a fool
'Cause I finally found someone who really cares

You held my hand when it was cold
When I was lost, you took me home
You gave me hope when I was at the end
And turned my lies back into truth again
You even called me friend

You gave me strength to stand alone again
To face the world out on my own again
You put me high upon a pedestal
So high that I could almost see eternity
You needed me, you needed me
You needed me, you needed me

One of my favorite singers. "You Needed Me" just made you hope all could find that kind of love.
I do believe Mr. godewey you are a softy at heart. The following is for you:

reply

I adore Anne Murray. Especially her older stuff. Grew up listening to her. Such a good talent.
I always get looks when somebody hears me listening to her. I tell them to deal with it.
Beautiful music is beautiful music.

"you are a softy at heart"
Please don't spread it around. I have a rep to protect. :)

reply

I always thought the sensuous "Help Me Make It Through the Night" was hers, but it was Sammi Smith's. You could really lose yourself in those words.

"Help Me Make It Through the Night"

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=o1VZxsB-uho

"Take the ribbon from your hair
Shake it loose and let it fall
Layin' soft upon my skin
Like the shadows on the wall
Come and lay down by my side
Till the early mornin' light
All I'm takin' is your time
Help me make it through the night
I don't care who's right or wrong
I don't try to understand
Let the devil take tomorrow
Lord tonight I need a friend
Yesterday is dead and gone
And tomorrow's out of sight
And it's sad to be alone
Help me make it through the night
I don't care who's right or wrong
I don't try to understand
Let the devil take tomorrow
Lord tonight I need a friend
Yesterday is dead and gone
And tomorrow's out of sight
And it's sad to be alone
Help me make it through the night
Help me make it through the night
Help me make it through the night"

reply

I've heard several renditions of this song but never this one .I really like this one.
I've never heard of her before. No matter who sings this it is a beautiful song.
Thank you for finding this.

reply

You are quite welcome! Have you noticed all the great songs you want to immerse yourself into are accompanied with strings? And, wow, with a good headset, wireless, I can hear sounds I never heard before. I have the BOSE tower, but my Bluetooth headsets are my choice. btw, I'll keep your secret...got to protect that rep.

reply

I finally switched over a few years ago to bluetooth. I have 10 speakers and headphones.
I also have over 5000 songs on my Ipod. I couldn't fight it any longer. If it's there why not use it.
Having said that I still pull out my record player and play albums and 45's every now and then.

Now that my rep is safe I will go do guy things. Like shave and spit and scratch. Maybe even
open my the hood of my car and stare at it for awhile.

reply

Yeah, I miss the automatic changer playing the 45s. I read people are pulling out the vinyls again. They miss the sound a needle makes on the grooves. Some time past I was looking for a changer, but couldn't find a new one. Anyhow when we moved to another state I got rid of all my 45s and 78s. Now it's my iPad with the Bluetooth headset or my Moto X. Don't forget to kick the tires!

reply

I've actually bought a few newer albums to listen to. The difference is amazing.
A couple years ago Neil Young came out with an entire album recorded in one of those
old fashion record booths. The ones where you could go in an it would make your
own personal record. I love it. Reminds me of better times.

reply

Better times...sigh. Someday I'll have to tell you about my shenanigans when I worked at the Motorola plant in Plantation, FL. The '70s music take me back. When "If You Could Read My Mind" and "Sundown" were released they were played over and over in the plant cafeteria. How I miss those days...another sigh.

reply

They were definitely different times. I listened to AM radio until one Christmas when
I got my own radio with FM. That Changed my whole world. I was able to discover and appreciate new music. I also listened to my mom's 45's. So that introduced me to the music of the
50's. My grandparents introduced me to the music of the 30's and 40's.
I discovered classical music. Still have 45's of Frankie Avalon, Beatles, Tommy Roe,
The The Shangri-Las etc...... Swing , big band, the old crooners. I love them all.
Music is a huge part of my life.

I always love your stories. Can't wait.

Mr. godewey, here's another one which can make us pause and reflect. Damn it's hell getting old. All we have left are our memories....

"All Good Things" by Jackson Browne

All good things got to come to an end
The thrills have to fade
Before they come 'round again
The bills will be paid
And the pleasure will mend
All good things got to come to an end

God I wish I was home
Laying 'round with my friends
The call of the wild
Caution thrown to the wind
The fall of the child
Where the longing begins
All good things got to come to an end

Like a river flows
Rolling 'till it ends in the sea
Our pleasure grows
Rolling 'till it ends in you and me

Now as the dark gathers into the sky
And legions of might go thundering by
Regions of light grow dim and then die
And we with our wings
Wait for morning to fly

Like a river flows
Rolling 'till it ends in the sea
Our pleasure grows
Rolling 'till it ends in you and me
Rolling 'till it ends in you and me
Here where the angels
Have appeared and are gone
Your face like an ember
Glows in the dawn
But I want you to remember
All wild deeds live on
All good times, all good friends

All good things got to come to an end
The thrills have to fade
Before they come 'round again
The bills will be paid
And the pleasure will mend
All good things got to come to an end

All good times, all good friends
All good things got to come to an end

Thank you for reminding of this. Haven't heard it for awhile.
Jackson Browne is sneaky. I've never considered him as one of my favorites.
But when you think about his music he has a lot that I love.

I just thought of You are so Beautiful to Me by Joe Cocker. Not a lot of lyrics but
sung with such emotion and soul. I get chills every time I hear it.
That reminded of the music he made with Leon Russell. I posted one of his songs.
Another great talent we lost last year.
