Announcement Re: The Experimental Profanity Filter

Hello everyone, I'm the newest MovieChat moderator.

The automated profanity filter was only an experiment. Due to your feedback, we've decided to remove it.

You'll also be happy to hear Jim is looking into fixing the character limit on posts.

Next time changes are made that impact members, we're going to do our best to post an announcement here in General Discussion.

Thanks for your feedback!

Hi Moderator3 and welcome to the post!

Thanks for the heads up and, as I'm sure you read, most of us were figuring out that it was some sort of dry run for something and were mostly having fun playing around with it (Softly mind!).

Hope you enjoy your role here and hope to not see many private messages from you except to say something nice ;)

reply

Thanks for the welcome, Houdini!

Glad the experiment provided some of you with some entertainment ;). Yes, I did read both threads on the subject.

So far I'm enjoying the experience, and expect that to continue. I'll do my best to not send you too many PMs of the chiding variety ;)

Why are your replies hidden from your profile page? Is it a new feature?

reply

I think they have a forum or area that is exclusive to them and Jim hasn't set the permission for this account to mask them yet.

At least that's what I'm taking from it as they seemingly have 40 posts but only this one visible.

reply

Houdini's correct. We have a moderators' forum, and until now, that's the only place where I've posted. These three posts here will show up on my posting history.

Good to know that profanity filter was just the experiment. Those automated thingies never work as they are supposed to, and only create chaos.

reply

Thanks for the heads up. Welcome mod3.

reply

Good that it was just an experiment and that it's removed now.

I'm all for some form of control to stop the worst trolls, but automated filters like that just doesn't work, since they will always find ways around it.

Anyway, we have ignore and report button, and now a new moderator3 to do the job!

I'm really glad he's working on the character limit. It's way too short as it is.

I would also like to venture a suggestion, as others have already suggested, that the "news, rumors and gossip" threads be given their own board separate from the general discussion board. They've created a real mess here.

Agreed.

reply

Request denied. The only thing I would change is maybe make them a different color so crybabies like you will know to avoid those threads.

reply

I agree. Too many Kardashians on the general discussion board. I'd prefer the gossip junk be on the separate tab that I will never look at.

Mod1 is good & Mod2 is bad.... I hope you turn out to be a cool dude ;)

reply

You better announce changes next time, because... Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... MASS HYSTERIA! :p

Also, I second the separation of the "New, Rumors & Gossip" tab!

Good luck, Mod3!
