What's your favorite perfume/cologne?
I absolutely LOVE perfume and I basically collect them. I love to smell good and I wear a different scent everyday. My 2 favorites are Ralph Lauren Romance and Flora by Gucci. What's yours? π π

shareI have two favourites.
White Musk by The Body Shop
Glow (original) by JLo
Also love Anais Anais and LouLou both by Cacherel
Used to like Paris by ysl but find it a bit overpowering now.
I intensely dislike Glow lol. But I do have about 8 of her other Glow perfumes and out of all of them, Miami Glow is my favorite. Smells so sexy!! Ever try it or any of the others?
shareI've tried the after dark one which I liked and another one in a blue bottle which I didn't like.I do like the musky ones.
I also have Alien by Thierry Mugler and Britney Circus which is surprisingly nice too.
For a dose of nostalgia I sometimes buy Charlie body spray!
Did you have Avon in the US?
Yeah, Blue Glow smells to4 manly. I'm not crazy about it. Oh and I ADORE Alien!!!! It's awesome!! Try Miami Glow. Smell like the beach lol. Yes, Avon used to be HUGE here. Not so much anymore. But I still buy occasionally. In fact, back in the day, I used to sell it. I was my area's youngest rep. Only 13 at the time lol!! My favorite Avon perfume is Rare Pearls. Soooo good!!
shareElizabeth Arden:Red Door. I have had many compliments mostly from men. At my age that's the only thing on which I get complimented. LOL! Oh, to be young again, but as Wordsworth wrote:
"What though the radiance which was once so bright
Be now for ever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind;"π
Sigh.....
Also,
Chanel:#5
That's beautiful.
My mother prefers Red Door, too. She also gets a lot of compliments when she wears it.
shareMy granddaughter loved it too until someone told her Red Door is what old people use. She quit using it!
shareLol, that sounds about right. I just posted that my favorite is Shalimar, really old fashioned. My tastes run old. I was born at the wrong time, alas!
Side note, I wish I lived close enough to New York to see the musical about Eve Arden and Helena Rubenstein (Revlon Founder) called War Paint.
I also wear Chanel#5 which is older, by four years, than Shalimar. Funny thing though, my granddaughter will wear Chanel#5. Go figure! Maybe because it's ageless. My mom gave me my first bottle when I was 15...so many sweet memories when I spray just a small amount (yet sad, my first and only true love).
shareI think Chanel #5 has a cool factor that it never lost in the pop culture. My mother has a tiny bottle of Chanel #5 that my father bought her when they were dating. She never used it, though! It has probably turned to alcohol, now. I smelled the new version of Chanel in the store, and it is divine as well. I can't remember the name, but it was in a pink bottle.
shareThe Chanel#5 which is currently available in only clear glass bottles (as far as I know) doesn't have the same scent as the famous black & gold spray bottle. IMO. I'm searching for a new black & gold to no avail. There are many on Ebay, but they are used.
shareI think you are right. I read an article online about perfumes and how they've changed. Some of the perfumes no longer have some of the same ingredients that they had years ago. I know some perfumes had civet oil years ago, but some no longer use it because it is from an animal. I don't know if Chanel #5 was one of these or not. I'd be wary of buying used perfume online as it loses its scent after a while if it is too old.
shareI agree about not buying used perfume. I think most people would be buying to acquire the black & gold case as it's refillable. Another one of those nostalgic items which has gone by the wayside.
shareI like to smell nice too, but not overpower people. I can't stand it when I am next to someone and I can not only smell their perfume, but actually taste it. Most people don't know how to use this stuff. It should be sprayed into the air and you quickly walk through that spray.
It's pleasant when someone walks by and you just get a hint of a fragrance. you think, hmmmm... that was nice.
I like a nice clean fragrance. Light and citrus or a cucumber/melon body spray. Light on the spray.
I hate it when people's perfume/cologne is too strong. Bleh.
But it is nice when someone has a light scent. Vanilla, citrus, and flowery are good. I don't actually wear perfume, though. Just deodorant.
I like just a nice scented soap or Powder Fresh Scent Dry Idea deodorant.
I think my aversion to perfumes goes back to having to go to church each Sunday and be surrounded by women with different perfumes. Add the men and all the different aftershaves to the mix and it was a wonder none of us were fainting in the aisles or at least gasping for breath!
I prefer people to just smell clean.
@MissMargo:I can attest to the above! Nothing like going to church in Central Florida back when there was no air conditioning! Whew! The different scents mingled with the humidity and just hung there! Add the BO to that!
shareAh yes! The summer was the worst! No air conditioning!
You're right about the BO. That's another fragrance you don't need! LOL!
Actually, it isn't a laughing matter when you are up against THAT!
For me, it's been " the great smell of Brut " for decades.
shareWOW! I remember Brut! My sister actually use to like that! She didn't care that it was a men's cologne. She actually use to wear that when it first came out! It was kind of nice on her. Must have been a chemical thing.
shareCan't go wrong with that really.
share
On me, nothing. On a woman, whatever smells nice.
π
First, I have to say this: I despise that Axe crap. I spend a lot of time in the gym, and Axe is the stench of choice for the meathead brigade. It makes them smell like girls, and, of course, they wear enough of it to make a Clydesdale pass out.
I used to wear Georgia VIP, until Armani stopped making it. It wasn't a daytime cologne. Today, I wear Hanae Mori for business (citric, lightly spicy) and HIM by Hanae Mori for the night (richly musky, undertone of cloves). I prefer exotic colognes. I don't want to smell like anyone else to her.
Mine is an old fashioned scent. My very favorite is Shalimar by Guerlain- real French perfume. I think it is the sandalwood in it that I like, and the rose. There's a hint of vanilla, too. These are three of my favorite scents, so I find Shalimar to be divine, but it is old fashioned.
shareThat's my mom's favorite!!!! Ooooh and so expensive for the straight up Perfume. Not Eau De Parfum, but the concentrated Perfume!!!!
shareLol, yeah I know it is an old fashioned kind of perfume. I'm only 37, but I have old tastes. I like old movies, old books, old music, and old French perfume! Yes, the straight up perfume is VERY expensive. At one time, I wore it only sparingly, but a couple of years ago, I thought "why not" so I wear it now whenever I want, even if I am just going to Walmart.
shareThat means you have an "Old Soul". Your soul has been around longer than your physical vessel. (I don't really believe in organized religion, but if I was forced to pick one, I'd go with Hinduism. I kind of like the thought of reincarnation π)
shareI don't know about that. If I had an old soul, I'd be wise. :) I think I'm just pop culturally retarded. Lol
shareNow see, the wisdom comes in time. The more times one comes back, the wiser they become. Only when you become perfect does the reincanating cease then you will be good enough to go to heaven and sit by the Lord's size. (I'm paraphrasing, but that's basically the gist of it I think lol!)
shareLol, well I don't know. I must not have been around too much in that case, because I sure am unwise in many ways, lol.
