Just wanted to say I'm really enjoying this site!

I realized that although I also joined themovieDB and imdb2, and started posting, after IMDb closed their boards, it turns out that right here is where I've ended up making my new home, plus another smaller board.

This has become my favorite haunt of all the new mirror sites with imported IMDb categories, that sprang up. I now come here every single day, the same way I used to for IMDb! I really like it here. I make a point of posting on the individual boards of a movie or TV show I've seen that I want to discuss. I think we all need to do that even if we think a board is "dead" -- we are the ones that can make it active again by posting, and then others who visit there will see that someone has made a fresh post, and will make one too. It's been working for me.

So, just to say, I just realized this site won out for me over the others, and I'm using it now for all my title-specific board needs. Thanks Jim and his helpers. [thumbs up]

Good to hear! Great to have you. 🤗

Glad to be here! :D

The Alien boards are the worst so far. It is filled with a group of pseudo-intellectuals who like to mock anyone who they deem to be stupider than them. As if that's possible. Lol

reply

Yes, pretentious neckbeards are pretty annoying, thankfully I don't see many of them in real life.

reply

Neckbeards-lol.

reply

I know right? Lol

reply

Hilarious!!

reply

Hahah neckbeards. To be serious, I think a site like this needs both serious film critics and average moviegoers like ourselves. I like reading some detailed analysis every now and then, and other times I just like shooting the shit with you guys.

reply

I am pretty sure that is because those are actual aliens. I remember writing to one once and they have a tight knit group of individuals. They dislike humans.

reply

Is that what it is?
Well, I'm going to report one of them to admin because he's gone too far. It's one thing to be snobby. It's another thing altogether to abuse someone and call them stupid.

reply

I do not mess with aliens man. They are whole another breed.

reply

Someone must take a stand like the resistance in Star Wars.

reply

There's something oddly reassuring in knowing that at least they are posting anyway, lol! Eh people, they never change much!

reply

You want me to send them to you so that they can bother you since you like being bothered?

reply

Actually I don't "like being bothered." I don't know why you would say something like that. I was merely trying to keep things light. I didn't mean anything bad by it but you seem to have been offended.

Wow, suddenly today this place is going into mean territory, what with "Indianna" melting down and now this rather defensive response.

reply

My point is that the behavior of most of those posters on the Alien board is serious enough to report abuse. So no we don't need people like that around.

reply

I'm sorry to hear that, I didn't know how bad it was.

That I can agree with, that nobody wants that kind of thing around. A serious degree of trolling was why I stopped posting on some IMDb boards which were once my regular places.

I still think it wasn't really necessary for you to say what you said to me when I hadn't meant any harm. I've been trolled very badly in the past and I'm the last person to "like being bothered" -- I just had no knowledge of how bad a degree of trolling the board you mentioned was dealing with, that's all.

reply

I didn't say troll. I said abusive.
And why do I have to apologise to you? I didn't do anything wrong.

reply

Nowhere in my post did I say you "had to apologise" to me . . . .

Jesus dude. WTF?

Why has this gone so bad?

I made an innocuous comment to you that I now see was misplaced and trivialised your situation on the board you mentioned.

If anything my next post was an apology to you.

When you clarified that there was abusive activity, I realized I shouldn't have made light of it.

However, I still felt that there was no need for you to be quite so defensive when I had never intended any harm.

That wasn't a demand for an apology, I was just saying no need to be that way, I mean no harm. I didn't do anything wrong either, for the record.

Also, the use of the word "trolling" as I called it -- I'm sorry if you don't think that was a fitting word as you used "abuse" -- I just used "trolling" as there's a lot of crossover behavior in "trolls" and "abusive" people. Those two things can regularly come very close to sharing a borderline.

It's pretty nitpicking of you to argue over one small bit of semantics. Both words are indicative that over-all a board became difficult and problematic. That's all I took from it and all I meant by my choice of word.

Forget it. I was trying to be nice, I meant no harm, I wasn't trying to make light of your post and if I did it was not intentional.

I've been merely glad to have a place like this after we lost IMDb. I've been in a good mood this morning and didn't think I had offended you.

Between this exchange and another poster who flipped out today, I'm not feeling so positive right now, anymore. Time to get on with stuff I need to do today. Pardon me for trying to be nice. Jesus H christ.

reply

It's alright. I have no problem with you being nice. I was returning the favor by warning you about a certain type of posters who go around attacking people who they think are stupider than them.
You responded that for some reason posters like them are comforting to you. And I'm like gonna send them your way. Lol
Have fun getting abused.

As for the rest of this site, I like it. It's the most active movie based message forum that I've been to so far. I haven't been to many though. This one would be like the fourth.

reply

There are a few posters who seem pretty normal at first... but seem to have hair trigger tempers and become angry almost like the famous Joe Pesci scene in Goodfellas "Am I funny... do I amuse you" except they aren't joking... at least they don't break character if they are. I'm thinking they might even be the same person. The one thing they have in common is that they make people feel bad after they engage them even though the person didn't say anything wrong.

My advice is to not engage... follow the patterns of their future posts... or look at their history to see if this is something they've done to other people. If you do see this pattern then press ignore and your problems are solved... at least until the next iteration pops up.

Most posters here are nice, but I've never seen a message board without trolls in the same way I've never seen a school without a bully.

reply

[yes]

reply

Sad isn't it cat? Trolling sucks. I hate myself.

reply

You didn't mean to write "I hate myself" did you? LOL! You're not a troll :D

Yeah, it is sad, and yeah, it does. I'll never understand trolling. Aside from the obvious extreme need for attention, it makes no logical sense. Why would someone who wants as large an audience as possible at the same time do things that would decrease that audience? Makes no sense, but then if one is a sociopath, this wouldn't occur to them anyway.

reply

Terrygg you really are a hypocrite. Just today you called me stupid out of nowhere, and now you make yourself the victim? What a troll you are.

reply

Happy you're happy 😀

I agree that no one should consider any given board "dead". I post to old threads all the time. Frankly, I did the same on imdb. I would just scan thread titles for something that intrigued me and would post even though the discussion had started much earlier-- sometimes years earlier. The ideas don't age.

reply

Exactly! It's totally worthwhile posting replies to old threads and posts, because we're kickstarting future replies!

reply

We haven't met. Hello Prelude and welcome.

reply

Hey there wheelin! Glad to be here!

reply

Yes, it's definitely the best of the bunch!! And it has the potential to one day down the road be comparable to IMDb. Little by little, it can happen!! 😄😄😄😄

reply

I totally agree! With all the IMDb boards here, we can take up exactly were we left off, it's amazing. I have been feeling completely at home here and it's like the board apocalypse almost never happened. We've got all our boards and the community is lively and can only grow.

reply

Not all of them😉

reply

Yes, I've heard that not every board and thread managed to get migrated over -- that's a pity. I think Jim did a great job with many, many of them though. I've been quite surprised to find even some obscure film title boards are here from IMDb.

Have you been missing some? Which ones didn't make it over, croft_alice?

reply

The tomb raider boards are missing and part of RE movies boards😉

reply

Oh, that's unfortunate. . .have you posted to or contacted Jim about it? Perhaps there's a chance he has those archived and will move them here eventually?

I know he has posted about that and it looks like more complete migration may still happen.

reply

Yes,i did posted on that boards and emailed jim about this, but still no result. It's not a big deal but it will be nice to see them again, maybe the old gang might still be out there😉

reply

I hope you get those back one day, you never know. :)

reply

Prelude,i have a question for you,please don't be offended...are you from US?

reply

It's most definitely the best I've come across, easy to navigate and the vast majority of posters are friendly and mature enough to agree to disagree.

There are a few touchy characters as you're finding out.A few contrarions who think discussion means that argument is a necessity also a few who think when someone disagrees with them they're being trolled or abused.

I had something similar happen to me when I first came here and it is quite off putting,I nearly left.

I hope you realise that you've done nothing wrong, anyone can see that. The problem is with those who have over reacted to a light hearted remark.

reply

Thanks Dazed, I appreciate your wise words!

reply

Welcome aboard!

reply

Thanks keybored -- I like your name!

reply

Thanks.

It's a great board here and it's so good to have the ability to discuss films, tv and those involved in the creation of both, while sticking to the IMDB formatting.

reply

Nice thread, Prelude!

It's the same for me. I now come here (almost) every day, just as I did IMDb, and I love it here. Also agree posting either a new thread or responding to an old one usually breathes life back into a board that appears to be dead. I've been too busy to do much of this lately, but will get back to it as I can.

reply

Hiya Catbookss, yes this site is the one that has most closely echoed the IMDb experience for me, and now as active here as I was there -- perhaps more so since there were boards there toward the end that I gave up on.

I think posting to revive the individual boards whenever we can is cool, just do whatever we can, when we can, is my philosophy. :)

reply

That's my philosophy as well, Prelude :)
