Siskel vs Ebert

With whom did you most often agree?

For me it was Ebert. They made a great team, but rarely did I agree with Siskel. Didn't always agree with Ebert either, but more often than not.

When I first used to see their show in the early/mid-80's I think I used to like Siskel more. Ebert seemed to come off more obnoxious then.

Later on in the 90's I definitely line Ebert better. Siskel came off as this ritzy, art snob who crapped on everything. Ebert definitely seemed liked the one who could loosen up and just enjoy a movie. Siskel came of to me as really uptight and conceited.

who cares what they thought about a movie, don't need them to tell me which movie is good or bad, I can form my own opinion,

>> I can form my own opinion,

After you waste an increasing amount of money on movies that often are really terrible. Like Prometheus for example.

they gave thumbs down to several movies that I liked, for me they were useless.
Prometheus? the name alone suggests it's bad.

I miss them and their show a lot. I really looked forward to it every week. I saw so many movies that I would never even have heard of because they reviewed them and sometimes campaigned for "small" movies or foreign films. I definitely agreed more with Ebert but I thought he was too soft sometimes. Ebert was a better writer and he sometimes did two page reviews of a movie. He was more passionate, I felt.

I used to agree with Roger Ebert, the fat one, a lot more when they were on PBS in the show "Sneak Previews", but over time he became such a sellout that I started to hate him and his pretentious BS. Siskel died rather early on, in 1999, 18 years ago. And then Roger went on even when he had lost his lower jaw ... if you saw that in his movie, it was pretty sad, and gross. Siskel had some important points that I would often agree with, but sometimes not. Roger just liked more stuff. If both of them agreed it was usually a movie I would like. I remember one of the first movies they reviewed, called "Chilly Scenes of Winter" and I thought that was one of the best movies just in terms of the honesty of the story, how well done it was, funny and tragic ... just a perfect movie. But when they started to recommend movies like "Pirates of the Caribean" I stopped caring, but I think Siskel was gone at that point.

Probably Ebert

Siskel paid attention to the mechanics of the entire movie priduction whereas Ebert was a bit more lenient. Both were on equally seasoned critics though. There was rarely a film that I didn't agree with either of them on.

reply

I often agreed with Siskel more than Ebert.
