I got so tired coming here and seeing topics about politics, religion, nutball hypotheses and inflammatory agendas created by so-called people whose social skills and cognitive ability fall below those of a ball of twine, that I started hitting the Ignore button and, you know what? I'm happy! Take Dr. R_Kane's prescription😁
We are hardwired for survival; that is true. However, the ability to feel happiness is as integral to our survival -- health and general well-being -- as is our more primitive "fight, flight, or freeze" instincts. Even more so in modern human life, as we're no longer in such imminent danger for our lives as we were for hundreds of thousands of years.
Happiness is not a byproduct of survival; it's a means to survival, and more.
They are, yes, however they're not life or death situations, such as being chased and eaten by a lion or tiger, in which fight/flight/freeze are useful strategies. In fact, those strategies work directly against us in these new dangers, so adaptation is necessary for our survival.
Haven't you ever noticed that the more fearful or anxious you are (flight), or aggressive (fight), or shut down (freeze), the less capable you are of taking positive action? Or even your brain being able to use its higher functions and problem-solve? That's what I mean.
I'm not saying it's easy, especially being hard-wired by our primitive brains for these types of survival, but those old modes no longer work, except in extreme primitive situations, for which they were designed.
I like what you said that happiness is integral to survival. Modern human is not capable of true happiness because the fight or flight strategy no longer work for the most part.
Modern human can't flee from their job, for example. It's only fight, fight, fight, and never flight. We just can't. When there are no iminent dangers, flight is not acceptable. Whatever happens, fight is the only way that works. And it's frustrating.
Then we find escapes because we're tired of fighting. Like watching movies, or shopping, or chasing popularity on social media, or even drugs. But these are not true happiness. We never flee, they're just distractions.
What we do now is not survival, it's just amusing ourselves to death. More and more people do not feel the need to reproduce when it's the only way our genes will survive.
Modern human will be obsolete. Survival is overated.
