An Episode of Sparrows by Rumer Godden
It would most likely have to be an independent film or a Masterpiece Theater production, as I don't know if poor children in 1950s England would appeal to a mass audience. It would be a great character study, very good parts for children, particularly. It's not a children's book, so would have a very niche audience, adults interested in films with children as the main characters.
It would be a fantastic coming of age film.
The Tom Clancy novel "Without Remorse"
Stephen King "Eyes of the Dragon"
Stephen King "It" .....a good version, a major film with a good direction, not the cheesy version they put out.
