Best Movies About Depression?

Use the term "depression" as loosely as you'd like.

I just replied to the Lars Von Trier thread and mentioned Melancholia, that's definitely one of the best movies about depression.

Wow, i never knew that. Will have to rewatch now with that in mind.

No doubt about it!
The Grapes of Wrath!

Ohhhhhhhh...... Depression? I still have another one from that era. They Shoot Horses, Don't They?
That is one film I love, but it will depress you and it will stay with you for days.

I hope and pray that I understood your question.

Kieslowski's Color Blue.

This is a great movie about depression. Sad masterpiece.

Like one that helps you break out of it?

Or one that makes you want to kill yourself?

For me, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest comes to mind. The seriously withdrawn character of Billy is briefly brought to life by the charismatic influence of Mc Murphey ( Jack Nicholson ) only to be completely demoralized by the contemptuous nurse Ratchet and driven to suicide. And shortly afterward, we see Mc Murphey turned into a vegetable out of retribution. Granted, the huge Indian breaks free in the aftermath and offers a poignant ending. Nevertheless, the movie was a scathing indictment on the treatment of the mentally ill.
