Leading Lady as a Down-and-Outer?

Preferably older movies, 1930s-1970s... Doesn't matter if the woman is homeless, a prostitute, just someone all alone trying to make it in this world.. Those characteristics tend to bring up some great movies.

I don't want to "load the sample" so I'll let you all answer first. Thanks!

KLUTE (1971) which features what's probably the best naturalistic acting performance of all time, by Jane Fonda.

Judy Davis in HIGH TIDE (1987). I've never seen this, but she got great reviews for playing a drifter.

France's McDormand in MISS PETTIGREW LIVES FOR A DAY (2008)

Christine Lahti (to a degree) in HOUSEKEEPING (1987)
