Preferably older movies, 1930s-1970s... Doesn't matter if the woman is homeless, a prostitute, just someone all alone trying to make it in this world.. Those characteristics tend to bring up some great movies.

Also, what's that Lana Turner movie where she's a dressmaker(?) and her maid's daughter tries to "pass"? Wasn't she a single mother?

IMITATION OF LIFE. Yeah, I don't remember what happened to the father (?)

"Lady for a Day" (1933). The protagonist is a poor elderly woman who makes a living by selling apples on the street. It's one of Frank Capra's best movies.
