Just thought I'd put this out there. Don't mind the trolls. Other than that small group, we are a rather warm and inviting community on the whole. If you do decide to make an account here, you will have the option to report and/or ignore offensive posts, in addition to being able to take part in vibrant discussions. This site is still relatively new, but Jim is constantly working on updates to make it even better. Looking forward to chatting with you if you join!
All of the Team A trolls have something in common:
- nonstop mention of IMDBv2, even when we really don't care or ever asked about it.
- nearly every topic on their mind is moderation, trolls (ironically) and wanting more freedom to push boundaries. They've pushed it and no one - apart from them - likes it.
- They respond to their own socks immediately, sometimes within a minute. If these were really 5 separate people from different time zones, there should be hours between the posts. It's like all five magically sign on at the same time.
- disgusting use of language (and frequent use of n-words, homophobic slurs, etc). If I wanted R-Rated language, I'd watch a good movie, not listen to it from a boring troll.
- threads started with very little point, content or quality. Just attention-seeking, as always
On another board I had a stalker who would follow me around every board and post crap. I put the asshole on ignore and the bloody bastard just kept creating more stalking socks.
I won't go through that again. The SECOND a motherfucker acts up I'm blocking their ass.
We should definitely keep this at the top! Trolls will be everywhere. They're unavoidable; however responding to them only fuels them. Even if you use logic to win your argument you won't have won, because they will always come back with something. I truly believe that IMDB's reason for shutting down the message boards had nothing to do with trolls. They weren't making an acceptable amount of money off the boards anymore, and rather than admit that the easiest thing to do was use the troll issue as a scapegoat.
"Debating [with them] is rather like trying to play chess with a pigeon -- it knocks the pieces over, craps on the board, and flies back to its flock to claim victory." -- Scott D. Weitzenhoffer
Believe it or not, it was an Amazon review about creationists.
As you can see the original quote goes "Debating creationists on the topic of evolution is rather like..." But I dig it :-)
I think you may be kind of against it now though, if I remember correctly.
Ah. I prefer the troll version, no offense. I was raised a Catholic and still am a Christian at the very least, so evolution/creationism is a bit of a touchy subject for me. I honestly don't know what to think about it, so I usually just avoid talking about it. Let's just stop here, shall we?
Thank you. I'm about the same; I really don't care what you believe as long as you're not a b**** about it. I won't actively try to convert anyone or anything. I respect people's beliefs and boundaries.
Well said Traveler. Plus they never concede. They just keep arguing for the sake of arguing. Now some of these people getting accused of being trolls on here I have spoken to on here, and they seemed alright to me. I mean they engaged in healthy conversation about the respected film or program with me, and they did not try to promote their own agenda. Speaking of if people are getting on here in a desperate attempt to promote another website that only means that MovieChat is doing really good! π

Same can be said for some feeders as well. In my opinion, sometimes feeding trolls can be equally, if not MORE, pathetic than the actual troll.
