I love seeing posts like this! So nice to see such goodwill being spread, I think that really says a lot for the type of community this place is breeding.
shareI agree. I think it will evolve over time. I appreciate the Notifications feature as well as the Trending section on the Home Page. I actually prefer the layout than the old IMDB. The traffic must increase. I'm confidant it will. The discourse seems more civil as well.
shareI agree with everything you say here.
The notifications and Trending feature are HUGE and have made the site way more usable. But like you say, at the end of the day, it's all about traffic. Hopefully the user base will continue to grow.
I like it too.
A friends list, ignore feature, emotes and WYSIWYG formatting toolbar and we'd be all set.
What precisely is the benefit of a friend's list? I've never understood why some forums have them.
shareMakes it easier to keep track of posters you meet and like or find interesting on various boards. It works nicely on a site such as this, or IMDb, where there are so many boards for people to post on.
I've also discovered some interesting shows/films I wasn't aware of by going to the boards where people I like and/or find interesting are posting.
Indeed. Hmm. . .
On another forum I'm on every once in a while someone will send me a friend request. I approve it, but I'm always like, "Why?" I've never found any tangible benefit.
So you just want to keep up with other posters' activity on the site?
IMDb's friends list didn't have any requests; you just silently added whomever you wanted to it. I wouldn't like it if there were requests. That just seems bothersome.
I was on another board that had the friends list feature, and it was the same way. Since almost everyone knew one another, I couldn't see any advantage to having it there, either.
Yes, keeping up with people's activity, discovering new shows or films that way. Or sometimes just popping in to say hi and make a brief comment on the show or film.

shareI don't want easy stalking, but on the other hand, I also don't want this place to be lead by paranoia, on the other hand. I like being able to click on the name of posters and see what they've posted, and where.
In the best of all cases, it let's you know where and what the people you like or are drawn to are posting, which could and very well might lead to you different shows and films you didn't know about and might like. At worst, it can give you a heads up as to what kind of posts someone makes, and if you have any interest in interacting with them or not, especially once Jim implements an ignore button.
I've never been on a board where they have such a thing, but on the face of it like the idea of one where if you ignore someone, they're no longer able to see your posts or posting history. I can't think of a downside to this.
I've been thinking about this. I reached the conclusion that maybe it's better if posting history remains unhidden cause this is a big help with recognizing who is a troll and who isn't. I would hate to reply to someone seriously, cause I can't see his posting history, and it turns out that he/she trolls all the time except in that one post I was replying to.
shareI love it too. After being backhanded by IMDB, I spent so much time searching for a new home. Tried all the alternatives then finally heard about this place, and glad I did!
My favorite thing about MovieChat is actually the community of people here. Unlike some of the other places, everyone's pretty respectful here and there aren't too many trolls (yet)
Im so glad I found this place.. I was at a loss when I discovered the IMBD boards were deleted. Please go and like MovieChats page on Facebook. The more we spread the word, the better..Maybe IMBD will regret this slap in the face decision.
shareAs do I Ben.

Amen and roger that!
