IMDb = scum

They did not provide any sort of alternative.

The decent thing to do would have been for them to endorse (not economically) a site like moviechat.org

Right now IMDb *should* have a simple message explaining their decision to end the message boards up at least for 1 year, February 20th 2018.

On that same page they should clearly state that they have absolutely no relation with moviechat.org but that it is an alternative to their message boards and help message boards users find an alternative... but no!

They simply decided to 'murder' us.

That's why they are scum and filth... wish they lose millions.

reply

Hope they lose their shirts and suffer a lingering, horrid, and ignominious demise.

reply

you said it!

reply

yet tons of links on this site right back to them.

this site helps them by doing that.

reply

What imdb did was disgusting. And it wasn't because of trolls or people being called names. They couldn't figure out a way to monetize it and killed it off. Pure and simple.

reply

I would've actually been ok with IMDB adding side banner ads if it meant we could keep the site. The product was just that good.

reply

Same here. I wouldn't have minded some adds. But those greedy pricks didn't want to even care enough to consider that.

reply

the ipad app has always had adverts.

yet tons of links on this site go right back to them -- this site helps them by doing that, no?

It is impossible to fathom the depths with which I utterly execrate these wicked worthless wolves, Col Needham and Jeff Bezos, and all they and those like them represent. To call them wolves is a slander upon wildlife and to call them bastards is an insult to the illegitimate. I had barely settled into a passably normal sleep pattern following the disastrous 2016 election when these pinheads couldn't let well enough alone and restrain themselves despite all objections, remonstrances, and plain common sense, from obliterating the heart and soul of the best website in existence devoted to television and film and those who love these art forms. They now drive me to sitting up till 3:30 night after night, aching, exhausted, but relentless, seeking in some small way to offset their damages and make them suffer the consequences of their evil actions.

Their kind will eventually destroy all living things not counted among the 1%. I know my insignificant infinitesimal existence is doomed, slated to be wiped into oblivion just like the Internet Movie Database Message Boards, but this knowledge that every aspect of our existence is manipulated by malevolent millionaires has turned me into CAPTAIN FREAKING AHAB, and the system is MOBY FRICKING DICK! I will hurl my harpoon against its blubbery carcass until it drags me into the depths howling curses upon its miserable machinery with my last breath! The vital difference between me and Captain Ahab is, I am not alone. Thousands, nay, millions, will rise up hacking with harpoons to SLAY THE BEAST! If the LAST THING I DO is to wrench even a small piece out of the slimy hides of these robber barons before my utter and ignominious obliteration, my wretched and pointless existence will be justified!

May the Internet Movie Database sink without a trace and drown all rats who sail in her!

reply

That was really intense.

reply

Thank you, have you read "Moby-Dick" by Herman Melville or seen any of the film adaptations?

reply

"Call me Ishmael", anyone?

reply

Nice rant! I approve!

reply

Phew... Well, my friend, I doff my hat to you. That rant was pure gold. It was Henry Higgins esque in articulation and eloquence.

reply

You mentioned elections. You should know that not only coin was one of the reasons, but also freedom of speech. Or - it being too much. They weren't able to keep the boards being super politically correct, which many fans nicely exploited to break out of idolatry of celebrities and shed light on many of those liberal sociopaths.

Imdb didn't lose. They defeated freedom of speech.

reply

Please, stop holding back and tell us how you really feel.

reply

Amen!

reply

Does IMDbPro, or did they ever, have message boards?

reply

-

I think IMDbPro had the same features, just that you could put a picture and a resume on your profile. If you were only a fan, the message boards would have been enough to satisfy you. I did both. I was a fan and I also worked with some small movies that come to my state. It was a luxury to be able to list myself for some credits, even though, I did not want to spend money to publicize myself with a profile picture nor a resume.

imd-who?

Just spammed the heck out of Internet Movie Database's Facebook page with the following. This could get ugly.

Anyone interested in engaging in intelligent topical discussion on all things movie and TV from every era since the invention of the motion picture camera, structured in forums organized by subject, without having to flounder through Facebook flotsam, check out The Movie Database and MovieChat on their Facebook pages and websites.

MovieChat | Facebook
The Movie Database | Facebook

All those interested in being fed promotional material restricted to only the latest releases deemed most profitable to the industry, and milked for every cent possible by greedy soulless corporate monsters, by all means stick with IMDb and keep shopping on Amazon! It's your choice.

reply

F*** IMDb. Long may moviechat.org reign!!

reply

Totally! I was hoping that they will change their minds, even signed few petitions, but those a**holes don't care about us!

reply

I agree with you 100%. Simply closing it down and then providing nothing as a replacement was a direct slap in the face to the millions of users there...myself included. If they are aware of a troll problem or people being mercilessly bullied, then get moderators out there and do something about it! Unfairly punishing all users by taking away their posting rights is downright absurd and only tells me that those over on IMDB do not care about freedom of speech...well except the fact that they still allow you to review films...but that's still not good enough, in my opinion!

reply

But just like all corporations out there, why have moderators and pay them, when you can do without them and shaft the satisfaction of so many movie fans? I am sure there were a lot of layoffs when the message boards were done away with. We feel bad because we lost something that ended our communication. I feel bad for all those moderators who lost their jobs.

reply

Your post is spot on. What IMDB did was wrong to its users and its employees. Which is why I will never likely be back there again. On that note, I wouldn't be surprised if this move had a negative impact on their business in the long term.
