I hope this place takes off

I really hope so, because after all, movies and television are meant to be discussed, analysed.. which is why IMDb's decision makes no sense to me. I think the site has a really strong foundation so far.. some kinks to work out and such but hopefully it continues to grow as a community and more and more former users find their way here.

I hope so too. I've just been posting links on FB for here and have deleted my IMDB account. 15+ years and now it's gone! Ouch.

The good outweighed the bad, but the bad was more prominent. And that may have frightened advertisers and professionals in the industry, and frustrated IMDB moderators, having to clean it up, only to have it return again. They had no defense against sock accounts, and should've put a posting limitation for new users.

Take one look at the big releases like Suicide Squad, Rogue One and popular TV shows like Walking Dead. The first page was horrific to look at. Sometimes it didn't even seem like they were talking about the show or movie at all, but about other things.

And those of us wanting to discuss things like normal (and talk classic film and TV) had to suffer for it.

Agreed! I might suggest that we begin starting new film discussion threads on the various individual film boards here. Even if no one responds right away, it'll be a start.

I just saw "Paterson" and have some thoughts, so I think I'll post something on that board.

Me too. This site has that simple early 2000's beta feel to it where you feel it's more about establishing a strong community first instead of flashy page designs. Definitely a work in progress but it's done something right as it actually feels like IMDB.
