Is it really worth it?

Ok everyone, I have about 450 movies on DVD and my cousin has been harassing me for months to start buying Bly-ray. I have pretty much dug my heels in about it, because I honestly don't see THAT big of a difference, however, I have only watched a few films on Blu-ray.

Is it worth it? If it is, is it only worth it for movies like, Avatar or The Avengers or is it just as good for say, The Shawshank Redemption?

Feedback, please :)

A few of the earliest Blu Ray titles had bad transfers, due to inferior mpeg-2 codecs being used in conjunction with less than ideal mastering. For a true demonstration of the format's capability i'd recommend the following, based on their excellent transfers and sound mixes:

Avatar
Star Trek: Into Darkness
Transformers: Age of Extinction
Pacific Rim

As for older films, these have some excellent tranfers:

Alien
Apocalypse Now
The Godfather

Of course, then there's abominations such as the "Ultimate Hunter" version of Predator which was drowned in pointless DNR but lets not mention that again...
