why the hell are they showing retiring from teaching and SCHOOL BEING OUT FOREVER/FOR SUMMER now???

asinine!

[yeah, teachers CAN retire mid year but not usually. and they are sure as not running out of the school if they do! -- usually they leave by ambulance if they leave during the year.]

I hadn't seen this one until you posted it, but I agree. What percentage of teachers retire two months into the school year? This one would be much more effective if it had been run in June.

Note to advertisers: please be aware of the seasons when you run your commercials. We don't need to be seeing "Christmas"* commercials anytime before December 1st. Especially these "'Christmas'* in July" ads.

*You will notice I put quotation marks around the word Christmas. That's because what they portray in these ads isn't the holiday, just their interpretation of what they think it should be. Which equals materialism and instant gratification. Commercialism is not what the holiday season is about.

Lighten up. They are just saying that teachers enjoy retiring as much or more than kids enjoy being out for the summer. Although several retired teachers I know went back to part-time or subbing. They flunked retirement.

Don't blame me, I voted for Hillary.

it is the beginning of winter for crying out loud! that is why I dislike this commercial. the commercial itself is fine, but not when hallmark channel is showing christmas shi7!

being a teacher myself I can tell you, you don't retire in the middle of the year without something horrendous happening to you.

Maybe she just had her 65th birthday (does that count as horrendous?).

More likely some exec had the idea at the beginning of summer then didn't like the first 20 ways it was written, then didn't like the first few finished prints he got. By the time it was filmed and approved, it was Halloween, but the exec with the idea insisted it run anyway.

I had seen it earlier in the year. Though it's showing now, if you look at the action in the background, it IS the end of the school year. The kids seem to be leaving just like the teacher. What I'm trying to figure out is who is the other woman in the car? Is she the teacher's sister or..."companion"?

Annoying the world since 1960!

retiring in the middle of the year happens when you have a heart attack, need a hip replacement, things like that.

in general, they don't like it when teachers retire mid year because it screws up the kids.

Again, look closer at the ad: it's not the middle of the year. The kids are just as enthusiastic about leaving school as the teacher. That wouldn't be that way for just the end of the day.

You missed one, though it's probably a bit outdated. I had an elementary school teacher 'retire' when she got married. Of course, that was in the 70's when housewives were a much higher percentage of the female population.
