Why do people believe in fairy tales? Why don't people become atheist and believe in science?

shareSo this. No one "believes in" science.
To address the original question, research indicates that belief in a "higher power" is essentially hard-wired in human brains thanks to 200,000 years of evolution in human development. Which makes sense - people who believed in creators, gods, spirits, whatever would seem to have been more susceptible to authority, less individualistic, more collaborative with the community, less likely to give in to hopelessness or despair in the face of harsh environment or death, and so just generally a little more likely to survive to reproductive age.
Fortunately, reason and logic also seem to be hard-wired, and as humans moved into more security, reason and logic have been able to catch up, and over the last few thousand years, more and more people have had the luxury of time to think and have rejected mythology in favor of reality. Just give it time.
