Why do some people feel a drop in temperature when a ghost appears?
I have always wondered why. Even if ghosts aren't real and its all in the mind, why the drop in temperature?

shareI think the word is psychosomatic. The mind imagines the danger. The body prepares for the imagined danger. Bloodflow is limited to the core and restricted from reaching the extremities. Thus, the skin feels cooler.

Your consciousness is a result of the interaction processes between the neurons in your brain. These processes utilize the chemical energy that your body is able to extract from the food you consume. When you die and become a ghost you can no longer utilize the chemical energy of a body and therefore you need to draw thermal energy directly from the environment in order to keep consciousness going. This is why it gets cold whenever a ghost appears.
shareFascinating idea, really. But there's absolutely zero evidence for it, unfortunately. so right now I think it's bunk.
maybe in the far future, advancing our currently imperfect modern tech, we can figure out how Qualia finally works and maybe that explanation will give us insights on consciousness survival post-neuronal death.
it's a 50/50 shot, IMO.

The fact that you aren't familiar with the evidence doesn't mean there isn't any. There have been studies measuring temperature as a function of the abundance of ghosts showing that it indeed decreases as you introduce more ghosts into the system. On the other hand ghosts have been shown to cease to function at absolute zero which lends credence to the hypothesis that they need thermal energy in order to exist. I'm not saying that more research isn't needed but the general idea that ghosts feed on thermal energy in their environment (what is referred to as Thermo-Spectral Metabolism Theory) is fairly uncontroversial in the field.
shareSo let me ask you this, let's say that 300 years from now scientists prove that 'qualia' or 'sentience' via quantum mechanics or through quantum biological processes can exist independently from the brain's matter after the brain reaches a certain physical / neuronal threshold / maturity.
My question is why don't we have more ghosts interfering with the environment around them? Why are ghosts absorbing energy / lighting fixtures, etc. so uncommon in our physical geometry?
Billions upon billions of humans have existed since the Stone Ages. Why aren't we seeing more of them trying to 'make contact' with our geometry?
Is it because only a small select few have brains who's qualia-potential, whatever unknown thermodynamic force, or that's correlating their qualia, can withstand existing in both dimensional geometry's?
Can you tell me why we aren't seeing more of these bad boys trolling us in our reality? I'm not being sarcastic; genuinely curious.

Good question. The reason why you don't see a lot of ghosts from the distant past has to do with the fact that, being immaterial, the ghosts interact with gravity very weakly, if at all. This is corroborated by the fact that ghosts are usually observed floating in the air. Therefore, what generally happens is that eventually a ghost drifts into the upper atmosphere and ultimately into space. Since the solar system is moving through the galaxy the ghosts of people from the distant past are left behind, floating at the position the Earth used to occupy at the time of their deaths. Given how easily this happens it is remarkable that there are any ghost encounters at all. In fact, some researchers in the field have suggested that it is more likely that the Earth is passing through regions once traversed by other solar systems with intelligent life and that what we are actually seeing are ghosts of aliens.

The ghosts are typically stored in a laser-confinement grid called the Ecto-Containment System. The regulation of ghosts is a hotly debated topic and I must say that I haven't really looked into the legalities, I'm mostly interested in the science. I do recall there was some attempt at regulation back in the 80s with the EPA even trying to shut down the containment infrastructure at one of the labs in New York City. However, the shutdown was handled improperly and all kinds of chaos ensued.

You can pick up any paper on the physics of extremely low temperatures. For example you can check out the following press release about what I believe is still the world record in cold temperatures:

As you can see there is no mention of functioning ghosts. If there had been functioning ghosts observed at those temperatures they would have been mentioned. So they must not be able to just like I said.
