Post a Bible verse

Just for fun, post a Bible verse!

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
John 13:34-35

Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:
Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me
Deut. 5:8-9

This will sound unpleasant and cruel on the surface. While it is out there, given the context of why it was written and who wrote it, there's more to it. I want to share my thoughts on this. I have a big heart and was thinking, "How could this be in the Bible? It's so awful."

Psalm 137: 9

"Happy shall they be who take your little ones and dash them against the rock!" (NRSV) 😢

King David, despite what he has written down, is trying to convey something deeper with what he says. Please know, I don't agree with David's choice of words in today's times. It's nasty and morbid even though he was talking about self defense against inhumanity. I think this shows how good many of us have it. We live in a more peaceful time despite our world being far from perfect. This is the Bible telling us how bad our behavior can be, reminding us not to take kindness for granted.

Your example is beautiful and life-nurturing.

"By the word of the Lord one of the company of the prophets said to his companion, “Strike me with your weapon,” but he refused.
"So the prophet said, “Because you have not obeyed the Lord, as soon as you leave me a lion will kill you.” And after the man went away, a lion found him and killed him."
1 Kings 20:35-36

It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.
-Ecclesiastes 7:2

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
-Jeremiah 17:9

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
-Galatians 2:20
