Aren't all religions an attempt at explaining the world before we knew how it worked?
People looked up and saw white, fluffy clouds. People looked down and saw red, fiery magma. These became Heaven and Hell.
Why do people still believe in religion? Aren't they all false?
I would say yes. I really don't understand what religion is for and why it exists.. . .. to comfort people, to control behavior, or? I prefer science to explain the universe's existence.
Right, we know better now. That's not the universe we live in, we bothered to see for ourselves.
sharePeople believe what they want to believe. But I'll give the traditional religions another century or so before they're all gone - and temples, churches etc. used for different purposes. Something will replace religion, and the replacements may well be called religions themselves, but the supernatural elements will all but disappear. My prediction.
share Not all worldviews are the same and neither are all religions wrong. Some are better than others just as some are closer to the truth whether it be through othrodoxy or othropraxy.
Christianity has the most developed theology on God. It's not promising an easy, egalitarian society though, which is the modern false religion.
Religion is a mental crutch.
shareI've always thought religion's main purpose is to alleviate the primal human fear of death. Think about it, all religions preach life after death in some form and I think many people find solace in that.
shareI'm not going to claim they are false because that would require me to prove a negative but they all have the same amount of evidence to corroborate their claims: Which is zero.
