I seem to remember getting sick as a kid way back in the day.
During the winter months vomiting and being really sick.
This reminds of the swine flu outbreak back in the 70's.
They mad a huge deal and everybody had to get vaccinated.
It was only around for a few weeks and never went past a certain area. The government saved us again.

I haven't ever had this norovirus that I can remember. If I get sick it's usually a respiratory thing.
I very seldom get any variant of the flu. I also never get a shot.

If you're around kids I would always be worried. It would be tough to avoid I would think.

I think "sick" movies are always the end of the world types like Contagion.
They really should make one though. I think more people could relate.
You could call it " A Hundred feet to Loo" or "Skip to the Loo My Darling"or "5 Days With John"

[deleted]

Still haven't seen Bridesmaids.
I remember Mina saying something like that. I remember her explaining why.
I rarely ever pay her much attention to so it's kind of a moot point when she speaks.

Yes, she had it all her life. Sometimes it got really bad.
She had a lifetime prescription for her "puffer"
You really need to be careful at this time of year. Do you use any kind of humidifier or anything?

Kids can be one giant walking germ. They also touch EVERYTHING.

A couple years ago I bought an air washer.
Works great for the dry static air in the winter.
It also works wonders for cutting down on dust. With 4 dogs that's saying something.

LOL.
That's such an amazing age. All the discoveries and wonderment they experience.
It's nice you get to experience that with him.
That reminds me of a time when my son who had just started walking just got done with his bath.
I put a diaper on him and sent him on his way. I went out to the living room and saw piles of squished
bread all over the floor. I followed the piles and found him behind the chair, standing there
with a bunch of bread on top of his diaper. He was using his diaper as a table.
He had found a bag of bread, opened it , and was taking handfuls along with him.
One handful in his mouth, one on his diaper, one on the floor.
I looked at him asked him "what are you doing?"
He nervously looked at me and offered me some bread.
What could I do?

reply

[deleted]

We certainly got our fill bread that day.

At lest you're off work for a little while. So you can leave your hair down.
You'll be safe from suspicion.

Yuck. Picking up bread is one thing. Getting that out of of carpet would be a nightmare.
She must have thought teddy needed it. Maybe he was getting a rash.

It has been intense hasn't it. For a lot of us. And so it will continue.

At this point it really doesn't matter anymore. No more running.
It's actually nice to finally share some of this.

I know what you're saying but I'm not going to carry anything negative with me.
In the grand scheme of things that stuff doesn't really matter.
Who you are is all that matters. What you do is all that matters.
That's all we really have that is 100% ours.
I'm not going down with anything like that inside.
I may have some booze inside but no more negative. lol

[deleted]

Hey, my perspective has changed as you well know.
I totally respect you and your decisions. As I hope you know by now.

It's not at all noble it's just different.
I also have different and unusual circumstances.
What may look noble in reality is just not worth my time anymore.
Better things to do with my time so to speak. Not really a choice. So that helps. lol

I'm hoping so too. I think it's possible. Might take a few days but I'm hoping
it will happen.

reply

I hear you but let's be fair. Mr/Ms nonsense (we really don't actually know do we)
I don't think would. All we can do is go for it.

I'm just mad that I had my head up my arse for as long as I did.
That was just wasted time I'll never get back.

Look to the future fair maiden.

reply

[deleted]

Wasn't easy for sure.
Luckily I'm still flexible enough to accomplish it.

Are you kidding, I would have a whole line of people willing to
pay top dollar not only to watch and clap but to help me
with the whole process. All cheering the entire time.
Further!Further!Further!

reply

Whatever it was just plain sucked.
I guess it had to be done though.
I truly do feel like a different person.

I hadn't seen Mina until you mentioned it.

Some times a good shake and slap does wonders.
I'm afraid not in this case.
Still was spectacular.

reply

I remember hearing about the swine flu, but never knew what the symptoms were, nor was I ever vaccinated for it. #livingontheedge

I think I've only ever had one flu shot, because I keep hearing either the vaccines don't work because they miscalculated the virus, or people who have them come down with the flu, where they might ordinarily have not.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, my method is to hold my breath until I can get out of range if near anyone who sneezes or coughs during flu season, being careful to wash hands, especially before touching nose or eyes, and if I feel like I'm coming down with something, take that Emergen-C stuff (which really doesn't taste bad at all) to boost immune system. So far, so good, except for that brief bout of she-who-runs-at-both-ends*.

* No way, no how, did I have time to skip 100 feet, or even 20.

reply

Cat is back and you're gonna be in trouble
Hey-la-day-la Cat is back.

I remember it being a huge thing. It was all over the news and showed
Ford getting his shot. They made into a catastrophe waiting to happen.
One person died and 13 got sick. That's what started the whole thing.
Complete overreaction.

Sounds like a good solid plan for prevention you have. Hold your breath and run. lol
The double decker always sucks. Both ends at one time. You're kind of stuck.
Maybe flu or maybe a bit of food poisoning?

I have no scientific proof but my way of prevention is drinking.
There was a long time when I didn't drink. I got sick.
I now drink. Don't get sick.
2 years ago I sprained my ankle and developed a blood clot. I was on blood thinners for awhile.
I stopped drinking. I got sick.
The way I see it is if I pickle the germs before they can do any harm I'll be OK.
So far so good.

It's a very nice product.

I'd be happy to "chip in"
I am however now a child of the world.
I am in the air you breathe and the sun that warms you.

It's part of the whole enlightenment thing. Ya know.
Get used to it.

The question isn't where it will take place but how it will take place.
These situations can often be tricky.
So I've heard. ;)

reply

But is it made with special sticks? I don't trust anything that isn't made with special sticks.

You're starting to develop a bit of a Jim complex (praise be). You might be enlightened, but you're still Dewey, so you can't be _that_ enlightened.

Stop sexualising our three-way (the safe word is Neeson).

reply

I'm sure the nice people in Mongolia have plenty of special sticks.
Sticks with amazing properties!

That's an extremely fair statement.
Doesn't seem possible does it?
Still nice to be thought of in the same sentence with Jim.
Especially since I've been dumbed down with time and age.
Not mention using this site.

I obviously was talking about the board.
You and your little friend Dazed seem to be the ones with dirty minds.

The safe word is ALWAYS Neeson.
Actually Neeson fits for many scenarios.

reply

Do many trees grow in the steppe? I remain sceptical. I hope they at least play some Styx to the vodka (the best alternative to actual sticks).

Can it be called "dumbed down" if you started out already dumb...?

Don't shift this to me and Dazed. It's already established you have a foot on the "dirty old man" line.

This is enough insulting you for now lol.

Now where's Neeson's penis? I need someone to go fetch me some coffee.

reply

They're lousy with trees.
You've never heard of the Mongolian Weeping Ficus?

Yes, it's still possible.
I'm living proof.

Thank you for that. Still one the line though not crossed it. (he hopes)
We're now saying GF is "younger" not young.
No rest for the wicked until I close my eyes for good.

Of course it's for now. There's always tomorrow right?

Last I saw it was vacationing in the Mediterranean.
Working on it's tan I would imagine.

reply

I read that as "weeping fetus"... Which, with what Gengis Khan got upto might be a thing.

It's always tomorrow somewhere.

So GF is not young any longer. Roger that. Might she take exception to being called old now? Or at least "drunk guy" old.

The Italian paparazzi would have a field day with The Neeson. I wonder how it's disguising its identity. Cool shades, a blond wig, dressing up as Wilford Brimley's pancreas? It really is living the good life though.

reply

It may have been weeping fetus.
I might have just misread the label.

I never said old. That's obviously reserved for another party.
Don't try to get me into trouble. I don't any help in that category.
Just younger. Still works.

Right now it's dressing like a hipster.
I saw it parasailing earlier. It has it's own youtube channel.
You can check in on it.
Rumor has it there will be a reality TV show very soon.

reply

I know I'm old, but what are you? *sticks tongue out*

I know that you can handle getting into trouble all on you own, but it never hurt anybody to have a little help. I'm always here for you.

Oh, I didn't know it had its own Youtube channel! I'm going to head(?) there right now, and like, share and subscribe. And I won't forget to leave a comment either. And it having its own TV show in the works is making me excited for the new year. I can't wait for the inevitable downward spiral of hookers and booze and the interview on Oprah.

reply

OLDER.

I always appreciate the extra help.

From what I saw it's going to go skiing in Vail this weekend.
Along with it's whole entourage who I hear are just
a bunch of big dicks and assholes.
It better be careful, you know what they say
"The bigger they are the harder they fall".

reply

So basically the cast of the popular television programme "Entourage" then. Things are already going down hill for The Neeson.

BTW, glad to hear you've shared our existence with your beautiful, younger (read old) GF. Don't know about the harem bit, but I appreciate the humour. She'd fit right in.

reply

"Things are already going down hill for The Neeson. "
This is genius.

She's a real pip isn't she? Before I even told her
you were female she guessed it. I used the term people.
She's a real riot that one is.

reply

I'm in a really stupid mood today, because I don't see the genius in that LOL.

She's a smart lady, and I guess she knows you "get around". Just keep her full of soup.

reply

I had just said The Neeson will be skiing this weekend.
Going down hill---skiing.
Very clever.

She is smart and she's well aware of
my "getting around" thank you very much.

Soup and cold medicine is the way to go.

reply

I didn't intend for it to be clever, but I'll take it!

I know she is, because she's smart. We like to say we're immute to you charm, but darn it, you've caught us all in your net.

So, basically, you like 'em fat and sedated. Is this a part of the "implication".

reply

I kind of figured that after your response. lol
Always take it while you can get it.

Caught in my net like being caught
after escaping from the asylum?

These are your words not mine.
The "implication" could have many meanings.

reply

You make it sound like _we're_ the crazy ones in this scenario...

I can read between the lines. The implication was perfectly implied.

reply

Uhhhh, yeah.
I can't change facts.

Are you saying I'm perfect?
Thank you!!!
I wish I could say the same to you.

reply

How we reach enlightenment is not the question.
The point is that we do.
Between the MV,PK and a wonderful strain called Birthday Cake I have looked into the eyes
Of evil and laughed in it’s face.

I'm sorry to here Ludmilla had to go. I understand though.
She came with no warranty so no worries there.
However if somebody named Rocco calls I've already died.

GF is quite capable of taking care of herself.
Speaking of taking the piss I do miss the pee eggs.
They make a damn fine omelet.

I also wish you good luck Teddy Brosevelt.

Let's make them count though.
Mina will be so happy about this.

Which of course would be true. ;)

Speaking of this subject I see a pattern I'm not crazy about
this last week. She's not a diva or high maintenance.
This last week she's been a little diva-ish.

Today she wanted soup. Told her I would make her some.
She wanted her favorite soup from a certain place.
So I went into to town just to get her soup.
Now, they make a good soup. There's no arguing this.
I'm just now a little worried. Is it really her or is it just the sickness.
Or is it retribution?
Signed,

It would be called "Dear Dazed,'"

2. My soup holds it own. I've never made her diva
lobster bisque soup though.
3. 30 minutes there and back. It's also way below zero out.
4. It's great soup. I even got some tomato basil soup.

Tin of Heinz? You mean ketchup? lol

You read my mind. lol.
I was going to ask how this turned out.
Of course you do.
I bet you didn't get static shocks before you got married.

P.S. I'm glad you brought back the number thing. I missed it.

2. I knew it. Such a diva.

4. Exactly

I had absolutely no idea Heinz made soup.

The only reason I know is because after you get
married certain things change. Things you didn't do
before you now do. Things you did do now you don't.
No static before so you could Hoover.
Now static so Mr. D can Hoover.

Yeah, I really don't know why she does these things.
I'm always at a loss.

Two good things about today/yesterday.

1. Nice to see you and Mina back at it.
It did my heart good. I hope it continues.
2. I love how you really can talk under peoples noses
and they are oblivious.

reply

3. Yes, for soup. She's worth it and all that but
you see what I'm saying now.
I know she's sick. Just a different side of her.
You know what. I"m DONE. Good luck to her.

Mr. D obviously is a good man or he wouldn't have
been able to land you.

I haven't seen that thread. I've chosen only to

Of course NOW, I'll have to look. Thanks.

I didn't tell you but while talking to her
about letting you know when IT happens
I told her about you, Mina and our little thing.

she now asks me If I spoke to my harem

Will Mr. D open it for you?

I do wonder though that when you
were ready to leave would you have
left if IT wasn't happening.
I often wonder about this.

reply

I do this a lot.
Leave come back etc
Sometimes I just need to have a break from the lunatic fringe/Romanians.I like to clean my post count down too and if I could I'd often delete and start from scratch. I know that pisses people off but it's nothing earth shattering just nonsense on a message board.

If IT wasn't happening I'd probably still have returned .I was totally enraged by some of the things that went on,things that were said to you.Popcorn, prelude and then Croft's imaginary dead girlfriend were all things that would or could have forced a permanent departure. All of those things involved IT or IT indirectly so maybe they wouldn't have been so upsetting if IT hadn't happened.
Also do I even have the right to be offended?

The right answer is yes by the way!

reply

I didn't I knew you the first time you
left. I sure thought one of those
times you were gone.

Yes you can be offended by whatever you want. Just remember
It's the internet. Doesn't really
matter. Someone once said
it's just nonsense on a message

P.S. I just saw it.

reply

I don't know, doesn't marriage always complicate things? lol

I wonder if GF gets static shocks? Hmmm

I honestly don't care about the surname.
If she did marry I would hope that the kid would be adopted
by whoever she married. We've never talked about those details nor
have I thought about it. This really does need to be a conversation.

I honestly think you and Mr. D did it correctly. Big weddings are so overrated.

Best woman, of course. Not best female either. ;)

I'll make a deal with you. If I do get married I'll fly you and Mr. D over here
for the wedding. I'd fly Mina over here too but from the sounds of it it's
not that easy. There's always the "secret" tunnel if need be.
We could get pointers from Ludmilla.

reply

I'm glad to see you nominated MMC as (one of?) MC's most toxic and obnoxious posters, because I was just going to.

Croft doesn't particularly bother me, especially now that Arvin is gone. MM wasn't all that bad to begin with, but finally, as he grew worse, I didn't want to deal with his ludicrous trolling, and put him on ignore. Jebus, what a childish, thin-skinned ignorant sort he is. The irony is he regularly accused others of being the same. Projection much?

As all of you most likely know, I've been gone from here for quite a while. Initially because my life had become way too stressful and chaotic to even think about posting here. Then most of the people I cared about and liked disappeared, so what was the point? Then fire and mandatory evacuation for 11 days, utterly unexpected estrangement with my brother (last remaining relative, and this during an emergency! well then FUVK him), then a lot of clean-up.

I am glad to see you and Mina, and of course, Dewey, back! I think ... Damn all of you for posting in GD, in your inimitable ways, so I've been tempted to come back and reply *shakes tiny fist*

Can I assume MrDazed is all better now? And BTW, I LOVE Grace and Frankie! I'm not generally a fan of sit-coms, but this one was actually funny.

reply

[deleted]

Hooray for MrDazed's ability to recover!

Siblings, blah. I only have the one, and apparently mistakenly thought we were and always would be close. Which we were, until we weren't. Which happened very recently and has been very confusing and painful.

Anyway.

Do you have any clue why it took 7 months before you and your bros saw one another, and yet they were (nominally, granted) pleased to see you? That's weird.

I'm completely with you on NOT spending time trying to work out why on earth your siblings would be hostile to less than wholeheartedly pleased to see you, for reasons that are utterly mysterious to you. Whut, you're supposed to guess??? That's a waste of time and effort, and I'm glad you haven't invested in it; it's fruitless.

My brother and I had, so I thought, always had a good to decent relationship all of our lives. Our father was, frankly, a bastard, so it was the two of us as comrades in arms for many years, particularly when we were little. Too long a story to go into, but my best guess is his toxic girlfriend realised his weaknesses and exploited them so he became someone, especially within the last 8 months, I neither knew nor recognised, and certainly wasn't anyone to be trusted. He was always flawed, as am I, as are we all, but basically a decent human being. Now he's no longer a decent human being. It's bizarre. At the end of the day, I can't blame her, or only to a degree, because he allowed her to manipulate and distort him the way she has. It's a great loss to me, and I'm still trying to process it all because it's so unexpected and shocking. As awful as our father was, he's actually become worse, less caring, less compassionate, and that's saying a lot.

Wish to god I had my girly girl dog with me, because ... well, I don't have to tell you why.

MMC, he's full of childish, blind hatred, isn't he? I have friends on the left and friends on the right, although admittedly I'm more drawn to the left, personally.

reply

[deleted]

Okay, this is UNFVCKING believable, but I'm under mandatory evacuation orders, AGAIN!!! Thought at first it might only be a 'get your stuff ready by the door, just in case' type of situation for where I live, but NO, it's full-on 'be out of there by noon.'

It's because they're expecting 'heavy rains' today through Wednesday, and since the majority of the mountains above us burned and are bare, they're anticipating mudslides and flash floods.

I'm not going. I have nowhere TO go, and the mere thought of having to pack up everything again is overwhelming. My landlord isn't evacuating either, but he is on higher ground than I am.

But, I suppose I should do what I can, which is pack a small bag of necessities, move what I can off the floor and into a closet that should at least be safe from mud and debris getting in. On the shelves would be best.

Sorry to not respond to your post, Dazed. I will after I've had a chance to assimilate this new news.

reply

[deleted]

[deleted]

I'm ok. Just got internet back at friend's house. Mandatory evacuation and no idea when I'll be able to go home again. The whole area is a disaster zone. Have been trying to catch up on news because we had none until today. I see photos and videos and don't even recognize the place.

Had to get an escort out because I was trapped in there, along with everyone else. They finally came yesterday late afternoon. So happy to be out, alive, unharmed!

reply

[deleted]

It's difficult to imagine even for me, and I was there. It really does look like a war zone. Very hard to hear about the people who died. It's still all pretty surreal.

Yes, my place is okay. I'd looked at Google satellite when we got first evacuation notice to check out lay of the land. Not close to any creeks or natural runoffs, so I figured we'd be safe, even if the worst happened. But they only predicted 2-4 inches of rain, and even with the fire damage, 2-4 inches isn't that bad, so it's no wonder many stayed put. Plus, we'd gotten false warnings during the fire, so confidence in the warnings wasn't exactly high.

I thought 2018 was going to be much, much better. So far, not so much, but I hope you're right that the universe is going to balance things out soon.

reply

Cat,
It dawned on me last night “Where’s Cat?”
Where are you? I do hope you’re OK as your last post was 5 days ago. I’m sorry I didn’t realize you were caught up in the mudslide disaster. First the fire; then the mud! I was so hoping 2018 would be a better year for you, but it sure didn’t start out well for you. Please post letting us know you’re OK. I’m sure Brother Dearest was there for you. (sarcasm added)

reply

Finally I can respond to your post, yay!!

"This went down like a bag of hot sick!"

Ha! I'll bet it did, and may I add that colourful expression made my gag reflex consider doing the job it's paid for?

You were definitely in a no-win situation there. Sounds like a reasonable assumption that your not taking the no-win route is the source of the problem. I'm sure your moving away for so long is part of the equation, and probably that was it with your brothers, but it sounds like there's more fuel involved than only that with your almost-hostile eldest sister.

Yep, on the trip home my dear Floridian friend pointed out the irony that I travelled all the way across the country, only to find my oldest friend had a toxic wife/SO as well. She's nuts, brother's GF is shockingly conniving and manipulative. Oldest friend is the same person he always was, and would never have chosen to cut off all contact with me himself. Brother has chosen it, and that still stings.

Still considering moving to North Carolina and am in touch with the very nice real estate agent. A move is a must; no way can I afford to buy here.

Ok, I think I've got 5 more episodes to go :)

BTW, did you like the addition of Lisa Kudrow to the cast? My first thought was "Of *course* Lisa Kudrow; how fitting."

Yes, she was more or less Phoebe. I liked that it showed Grace had come to love and miss Frankie so much, she voluntarily got involved with Lisa's character, who was as out there as Frankie in her own way!

Back in the early ‘80’s for some reason, can’t recall why, I briefly worked at a daycare. My age group was pre-kindergarten. My girls were grown and in high school so I had been exposed to anything and everything a school age kid brings home. But, I caught something from that daycare which made me think I was ready for my Maker. I think I wanted to die! I don’t remember ever being that ill before or since, 36 yrs later! I’ve had severe bronchitis, but this was like it came from the pits of hell! Needless to say, I gave my notice. Thank goodness my family didn’t come down with whatever it was.

Merry Christmas to you Dazed and to everyone else on our great and informative boards. Have a Happy & Blessed New Year! Now it’s off to get a glass of eggnog laced with apricot brandy sprinkled with nutmeg. Yummy!

Dazed,

“So when I see folk with a heavy cold claiming to have the flu I laugh a manic laugh to myself!”

^^^^This! These folks who have not had a visit from the “pits of hell” have no earthly idea what it entails! Nothing like getting gross on Christmas Eve (wonder what they did back then?). But, when you have to put on a Depends, get down on your hands & knees in order to scrub the baseboards, the floor, the walls, the door and underneath the door I would say you have had a visit! Thank goodness for walk-in showers!

Here’s to all a healthy & happy NewYear!

Thanks Mina !!

I remember the days of having to work on Holidays.
It sucks but not much you can do. Just enjoy the time with your family that much more.
Just be leery of little germy carnie hands.

I hope you have a good Christmas too!!!!

Hey everyone!

I haven't heard about norovirus or the oh-so-appealing-sounding winter vomiting bug, but I may well have experienced it about a week ago. This during the midst of having been under mandatory evacuation due to most of central and southern California burning. Fun times. In the middle of one night, I woke up thinking uh oh, and barely made it to the bathroom, running at both ends. (There's a lovely visual for you.)

Wasn't sure if it was food poisoning or a stomach bug, but within 24 hours it was gone, thank god, nor did I transmit it to my friend and her husband, who were extremely gracious in putting me up for 11 days.

Movies about stomach flu? None I can think of, but The Exorcist comes to mind ;)

Now off to read the rest of this thread, and so happy to be here! Thanks, Dazed.

Hey Cat,

I assume you’re back home safe & sound. Is the air quality still requiring masks? 2017 has not been kind to you; and you have found sometimes blood is not thicker than water. Here’s hoping 2018 is much kinder and your wish comes true about NC. Have a Merry Christmas🎄!

Thank you, Ksp.

Yes, we were finally allowed to come home a few days before Christmas, and thankfully do not have to wear the masks anymore! My Christmas was okay, if a bit weird. Hope yours was merry and bright :)

Hoo boy, blood not always thicker than water, you got that right. I'm still processing it all.

This reminds of my oldest a long time ago.

She was the world record holder in projectile vomiting.
One time in the middle of the night (it's always the middle of the night isn't it)
she came to our bedroom door. I woke up turned on the light to see her standing there.
I asked what's wrong she said "I'm sick." I told her to go the bathroom.
Before I could get the words out she unleashed what looked like somebody opening up
a fire hydrant. It landed just in front of the bed. Distance covered was about 6 feet.
I told her to run the bathroom. She did. Down the hall turned to go into the bathroom, stopped
turned towards the wall and had her second go around. Completely covered the wall, the ceiling, the
other wall and came back at her. She was soaked the carpet was soaked what a MESS.
I told her go into the bathroom she looked at me and said "but I'm done".
The way she said it and the look on her face made me start laughing.

I spent the rest of the night cleaning up that mess, cleaning her up then cleaning myself up
and off to work I went.
It's one the of the best-worst memories I have if you know what I mean.

Okay, I could only read half of that before my gag reflex began to kick in. I'm sure it's one of those stories that's funny years past, but damn.

reply

Welcome back!!!

Yeah, it was pretty bad.
It was like something out of a movie.

reply

Welcome back to you too!! I read Dazed's post about you and began to be concerned, so I'm very glad to see you posting again.

Yeah, sounded like something out of The Exorcist. Eek.

It's YodaDazed! Happy to see you again, I am. I wasn't sorry to see the last of 2017, that's for dayumed sure, and thank you for the kind wishes.

I have to admit I do at times indulge in self pity, although I prefer to think of it as self-compassion and self-empathy :). To be perfectly honest, I don't think there's anything wrong with it. But I'm glad I do it infrequently enough that it doesn't come off that way, or isn't annoying.

After I read your post I broke down and Googled norovirus. Yep, that's what I had all right. The virus formerly known as "the 24-hour stomach flu." O.M.G., your poor friend and her family! FIVE people all down with it, with ONE bathroom and a kitchen sink? I don't even want to think about what that was like :|

Likewise with your son having it, and A BROKEN WASHING MACHINE! Ugh. I'm the same way. I'm a sympathetic up-chucker. When I was a kid, one time when I was sick to my stomach, I actually passed out before I could throw up, because I was *that* adverse to it!
