The Top 50 Shorts list on IMDB

I know these lists rarely amount to much but it has come to my attention that the list of top rated shorts on IMBD is horribly inadequate. Muppetvision 3D is listed while Un Chien Andalou is not. This is unacceptable!

So...If you are a genuine fan of shorts (or would like to be) list your favourites here so we can all make an effort to see them and then vote on them.

I'm talking CLASSIC short films.

I'll start the list:

Un Chien Andalou
The Red Balloon
Meshes of the Afternoon

Off the top of my head. I'll come back when I've thought about it more.

La Jetée (1962)

That's part of your problem, you haven't seen enough movies. All of life's riddles are answered in the movies.

I know they lack "snob appeal" but many of the silent comedies should also be considered as well as the films of Laurel and Hardy. Shorts should not just be art films.

I absolutely agree. Suggest some good ones.

Maybe Three Stooges too.

Just off the top of my head, Snub Pollard's IT'S A GIFT--rarely seen, but a gem; Laurel and Hardy's BIG BUSINESS and BUSY BODIES; Buster Keaton's THE PLAYHOUSE and COPS; Fatty Arbuckle's FATTY AND MABLE ADRIFT. There are certainly others but these silent or early sound films are classic shorts that are totally ignored just because they weren't made recently. In fact, that's a big flaw with IMDB--too much emphasis on just the recent and old classic films are forgotten.

A couple more for now...

La Rivière du hibou (1962) (aka An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge)
The Music Box (1932)

Into the Cellar
David Lynch's The Grandmother
Stanley Kubrick's Day of the Fight

Dil is a man.
Mr. Orange is a cop.
Rick Deckard is a replicant.

I recently discovered this...
Cat Concerto, The (1947)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0039251/

One of the best I've seen, and there is NO dialog, which is nice for my hearing-impaired self.
