Trump signs executive order to give himself even more power

From the same party that actually believed Joe Biden was a dictator.

TEXT:

President Donald Trump signed a landmark executive order Tuesday that would allow the White House to control independent agencies that have long operated outside of its influence.

The sweeping order, which claims to promote “Presidential supervision and control of the entire executive branch,” could affect independent agencies like the Federal Election Committee, Federal Communications Commission, Federal Trade Commission, and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The order appears to be designed to test a once-fringe legal theory, dubbed the unitary executive theory, which holds that the president has sole control over the entire executive branch. It also reflects the growing influence of Trump’s budget chief, Russell Vought, who has long been a proponent of the unitary executive theory.

The order is sure to be swiftly met by legal challenges.

“Previous administrations have allowed so-called ‘independent regulatory agencies’ to operate with minimal Presidential supervision,” the order reads.

“These regulatory agencies currently exercise substantial executive authority without sufficient accountability to the President, and through him, to the American people,” it continued, adding that these practices undermine the agencies’ “accountability” to the nation and prohibit a “unified and coherent execution of Federal law.”

“For the Federal Government to be truly accountable to the American people, officials who wield vast executive power must be supervised and controlled by the people’s elected President,” the order declared.

“Therefore, in order to improve the administration of the executive branch and to increase regulatory officials’ accountability to the American people, it shall be the policy of the executive branch to ensure Presidential supervision and control of the entire executive branch.”

The order proceeded to outline how Vought, the Director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, would supervise the agencies instead by establishing “performance standards and management objectives” for their heads and reporting “periodically to the President on their performance and efficiency in attaining such standards and objectives.”

The order also allows Vought to amend agency budgets “as necessary and appropriate to advance the President’s policies and priorities.”

Alongside his role as budget chief, Vought has also assumed a temporary title of acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, another independent agency, where he’s since laid off a large percentage of employees and halted funding.

The move is unprecedented. Past presidents have rarely tried to challenge the independence of these agencies and some have gone so far as to avoid even suggesting a hint of interference through their actions.

But Trump last week made the stunning claim: “He who saves his Country does not violate any Law.”

reply

It's OK though. He is not acting like a dictator, with dictator friends.

reply

So you prefer the world at a state of perpetual war?

That's strange.

reply

No, I prefer to stand up to dictators. Even if Putin gets his way and acquires Ukraine against the wishes of the population it would likely mean a resistance, or endless guerrilla war.

reply

So???

reply

So the war would not end so cleanly and quickly as some might suppose.

reply

So??? I don't give a shit about Russian in-fighting. No more than you give a shit about the constant war in Africa.

reply

Don't tell me what I think, and don't judge others by your own indifference.

reply

I don't see you squalling to save the Africans from each other. Why you care so much about Ukraine?

Because they told you to.

reply

I don't see you squalling to save the Africans from each other.

I actually volunteer for a charity with strong interest in supporting African peace and justice. Just so you know.

Why you care so much about Ukraine?

Because it is part of my continent being threatened by a criminous dictator. Why do you have such negative views of a country fighting an invader of superior might, one which needs all the help it can get? Is it because you feel obliged to parrot the noises of Agent Orange no matter how increasingly unsettling?

reply

Good for you. That's something for YOU to do with YOUR time and money. Are you saving Africans? Are you stopping them from killing each other? Probably not. You seem to have a real strong opinion on what WE should do with OUR money. The tit's gone dry.

Russia is not threatening "your continent". Is the UK a former Soviet territory? No. There's nothing to suggest it will extend any further.

Trump has nothing to do with it. If you'd asked me 10yrs ago, I'd have said the same thing. Lots of people want our help. Not everybody deserves it.

We are $36trillion in debt. We cannot continue fighting in every conflict in the world or subsidizing every country in the world. We either save OUR COUNTRY right now or we all go up in flames and/or learn to speak Chinese.

reply

Are you saving Africans? Are you stopping them from killing each other?

I'm doing a very small part in helping to make a difference.

You seem to have a real strong opinion on what WE should do with OUR money.

On the contrary, I have said hardly anything about what your country does or ought to do with its money, rather I have debunked the claims that billions have 'vanished'. Meanwhile in regards to defence, Trump has made a big thing about what we should do with ours.

Russia is not threatening "your continent".Is the UK a former Soviet territory? No There's nothing to suggest it will extend any further.

Russian aggression towards the UK is shown in many ways, very strongly online for instance, and the overall Russian threat pointed out by security professionals.EG
https://news.sky.com/story/head-of-mi6-says-ive-never-seen-the-world-in-a-more-dangerous-state-as-he-warns-russia-would-not-stop-if-it-wins-in-ukraine-13263010

And, if there was no threat why would Trump demand an increase in defence spending for each country in western Europe? So who do I believe: some Trumpian/Putin apologist on a message board like you or the head of our security services? Mmmm.. tough one that...

We either save OUR COUNTRY right now or we all go up in flames and/or learn to speak Chinese.

Or Russian.

reply

"And, if there was no threat why would Trump demand an increase in defence spending for each country in western Europe?"

So we don't have to, dipshit. That's the whole fucking point.

"Or Russian."

Russia hasn't been able to subdue Ukraine. They couldn't take over Wisconsin. This ain't 1984. They don't have the capability of doing much more than they are right now.

"So who do I believe: some Trumpian/Putin apologist on a message board like you..."

Putin apologist??? When have I ever said anything positive about Putin? I'll help you, never. Trump respects his adversary but you simple minded fools can't comprehend that you can be against our involvement in the Russia/Ukraine war and not be a member of Putin's fan club. I don't give a shit either way but you simpletons require a side to be chosen.

reply

So we don't have to ... That's the whole fucking point.

The point is that Trump (one hopes) still considers Western defence worthy of that continued investment ... for a reason. Who pays for it is a different matter.

Russia hasn't been able to subdue Ukraine.

Putin appears to think otherwise and it is his trying which is doing the damage,

They don't have the capability of doing much more than they are right now.

They won't have to, if Trump negotiates their win for them. And then too

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/putin-orders-russian-army-grow-by-180000-soldiers-become-15-million-strong-2024-09-16/

add to that an economy transformed to a war production footing and well ... we get the idea, Vlad.

When have I said anything positive about Putin ?

"Russia is not threatening "your continent" is a good start.

reply

No regulatory agency should operate without oversight. That's kinda the problem.

reply

Oversight was done by INDEPENDENT attorney generals who were illegally fired by Musk/Trump.

They're not supposed to be fired without 30-day notice to congress and then a specific reason presented.

Indicted felon Trump who calls thugs who beat and murdered police on Jan 6 heroes = corrupt.

reply

Who were obviously not doing their jobs. Which is why they were fired.

Nobody murdered police on Jan 6, you fucking piece of shit liar. The only person who died that day was a Trump supporter, an unarmed military veteran named Ashli Babbitt.

reply

Illegally fired by corrupt Musk/Trump who have zero authority.

You hate police = denial of their Jan 6 deaths

reply

Illegally fired? Who the fuck do you think appoints them and can also remove them? The president.

https://www.whistleblowerllc.com/what-is-an-office-of-inspector-general/

There were ZERO Jan 6th police deaths. ZERO! Anything else is an outright lie.

Years of "defund the police" bullshit and eight months of liberal democrat-endorsed riots, looting, pillaging and the murder of police officers. You hate police.

reply

You hate police.

But I don't charge the Capitol building and fight with them.

reply

You're from the UK. Why would you?

I don't either. Fact, video shows they were let into the capitol building but they withheld that for months. Wonder why?

reply

You're from the UK. Why would you?

Because I am not a violent insurrectionist.

video shows they were let into the capitol building

That may be the case in one instance but I saw the footage where doors (or windows) were kicked in or forced.

reply

The point is that you are from the UK so your statement, "I don't charge the Capitol building and fight with them" carries zero weight.

"I am not a violent insurrectionist."

Neither were they. They were American citizens who'd just watched years of negative propaganda perpetuated by the mainstream media. Non-stop lies about them and their chosen candidate. They stayed home and many lost their lives, their jobs and businesses due to COVID. They watched eight fucking months of riots, arson, looting, people being violently attacked and murdered. Businesses, entire downtown districts burned to the ground. All with the endorsement of the democrat party. Oh but that wasn't insurrection, a few people breaking stuff at the capitol was so much worse. Horse shit. Then they watched in horror as a feeble old man that never left his basement mysteriously won the election in a landslide. They were a little pissed and they did something they shouldn't have. It was not an insurrection. When we have an insurrection, there won't be any question. You should know all too well what happens when Americans get fed up with their tyrannical government.

reply

The point is that you are from the UK so your statement, "I don't charge the Capitol building and fight with them" carries zero weight.

One can condemn violence without being at home with it.

As for the rest, thank you for your opinions in justifying what was still an insurrection. And they were violent. I saw the live coverage.

reply

Calling it an insurrection over and over again does not make it true. You don't take over the government of the most powerful nation on earth without firing a shot. Grow a fucking brain and stop just blindly repeating what they tell you.

I know what you saw, we all saw it. The question you should be asking is why was that ALL they showed us?

reply

Calling it an insurrection over and over again does not make it true

And denying it for it was does not make it false either, although I can see how you and your ilk might prefer not to. But it is OK now; those felons (well all except one) have all been pardoned, even those who assaulted police officers or threatened government members with violence and death. Nice one, Don!

You don't take over the government of the most powerful nation on earth without firing a shot.

Perhaps that is where they went wrong?

Grow a fucking brain

Oh dear.

stop just blindly repeating what they tell you.

Yes that damn MSM, people of an alt-right persuasion, who post internet graffiti or contribute to X are those grounded and rational types who know what is really going on, right?

The question you should be asking is why was that ALL they showed us?

You mean you are making an argument now on something no one has seen? Or is it only you have seen it but not passed it on? What does it show?

reply

It's not about the amount of power, but how that power is used.

Biden abused that power and made himself a dictator.

reply

Why do you support a dictatorship?

No Democrat supported Biden's bombing Gaza which is why he was removed as candidate and 10 million democrats refused to vote for Harris continuing the policy.

Why do you support a dictatorship?

reply

Yes, the Democrats supported it and they staged a coup against Biden because their lies about his mental condition was exposed at the debate.

reply

Why do you support a dictatorship?

reply

He's acting in the best interest of America and bringing it back to a Nationlist state. All of Biden's actions were all done to harm Americans there's a difference.

reply

And President Trump and right wingers should be able to decide what's in the best interest of America. So no limits for Trump's authority, but the courts and congress should have some power if it's not your side in office.

Lawless dictatorship. There's nothing in the law or the constitution that says that the rules are different based on what Trump or any right wing leader decides is best for the country.

According to what you and Trump's people are saying, Trump could simply say that he's suspending elections by executive order for any reason he likes, as long as it's, in his opinion, in the best interest of the country. Courts and congress should have no power to stop anything he wants to do.

reply

This was always the plan. Replace the constitutional republic with a kleptocratic regime.

reply

Remember when Joe Biden ignored the SCOTUS ruling on college loan forgiveness?

reply

jesus christ, that's such an insane false equivalency. He tried doing it a different way that avoided the things the court objected to the previous time, and when the court ruled against him that time, he respected the decision.

How do you see that as comparable to Trump just straight out saying the courts are irrelevant?

reply

Remember when Joe Biden tried to force everyone to take an experimental injection?

reply

Richard Wolff explains what's going on there.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaUwItnsUfU

reply

Oligarchs carrying out a coup in exchange for helping Trump get elected. Where's all the MAGA halfwits whining for months about Big Tech? You really think they're gonna leave you alone?

reply

Good, these alphabet agencies will at last be accountable to the elected chief executive as the Constitution intended. And we won’t have to play games about it like when President Biden issued executive orders “encouraging” various independent agencies to “consider” issuing regulations like the FTC ban on non-compete agreements which the agency then carried out. Or when President Obama “suggested” the FCC regulate broadband providers as common carriers following which the FCC suddenly issued a net-neutrality rule that did so. Did you writhe about agency independence then? At least President Trump is being forthright about it.
