So if you're a low earner, you're screwed?

https://arstechnica.com/health/2025/01/states-say-theyve-been-shut-out-of-medicaid-amid-trump-funding-freeze/

Anyone without insurance will no longer be able to get medical care or prescriptions, is that right?

Is this a permanent measure?

reply

It's an EO, therefore subject to lawsuits, because congress has already approved the fundings Trump is now freezing.
Trump can do that, because he has to sign the papers that send out the funds congress has approved, but this has always been seen as something the president "has to do" because not signing the paper would mean he's overruling the majority of his own party in congress.
For how long he can and/or will keep the money frozen remains to be seen.

What I'm waiting for is the numbers of Republican voters who depend on Medicaid and will now realize what they voted for.

reply

"....What I'm waiting for is the numbers of Republican voters who depend on Medicaid and will now realize what they voted for."

Sadly, very few will make that connection. GOP voters love Trump and would never suspect him of selling them out. They'll blame the Democrats for anything that goes wrong. Never mind that the Democrats control none of the 3 branches of government right now.

reply

True that.
I remember during the campaign for Trumps first term there was a picture of some total idiot holding a sign saying "keep the government off my medicaid".

One can only hope when these guys go to get their medicaid that the one refusing to give it to them tells them that the reason why they can't give it to them is because Trump froze the funds.

reply

Here we go, a first judge has put Trumps money freeze partially on hold.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPcjBzeI7ig
They aren't sure how far that will reach and how much of Trumps money freeze will be temporarily paused, but we can be absolutely certain Republicans will take credit for all the ones who now at least temporarily do get their money.

Who would have guessed ....... ummmm, well, I did ....

and MAGAs are now celebrating Trump for fixing a chaos he caused himself.

It wont effect medicaid. Stop spreading lies.

reply

The facts say something different

https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/business/money-report/medicaid-portals-down-in-all-50-states-after-trump-funding-freeze-sen-wyden-says/3827465/

Whether that's really an error and will be corrected soon remains to be seen, for the moment it's a fact.

reply

You didnt even read my link.

reply

Yes I did, but what that link says doesn't match the fact that medicaid portals are in fact down in all 50 states right now.

reply

https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/01/923/

You are a special kind of retard. It's right on the white house site and it took me 20 seconds to find it.

Q: Is this a freeze on benefits to Americans like SNAP or student loans?

A: No, any program that provides direct benefits to Americans is explicitly excluded from the pause and exempted from this review process. In addition to Social Security and Medicare, already explicitly excluded in the guidance, mandatory programs like Medicaid and SNAP will continue without pause.Funds for small businesses, farmers, Pell grants, Head Start, rental assistance, and other similar programs will not be paused. If agencies are concerned that these programs may implicate the President’s Executive Orders, they should consult OMB to begin to unwind these objectionable policies without a pause in the payments.

reply

I just see a tiny little difference between "continue without pause" and "down in all 50 states".

reply

Next time you want to know something go directly to the source not NBC or whatever shit leftist site you frequent.

reply

Name ONE link that says medicaid isn't down right now.
A piece of text saying it shouldn't be down is worthless in case it is down.

reply

"Name ONE link that says medicaid isn't down right now."

Are you attempting to move the goal posts? I never mentioned one thing about their site being down. I said medicaid will not be affected. *Nobody's payments or services will stop because their site may or may not be down.

*nobody above meaning: any legal citizen.

reply

"Nobody's payments or services will stop because their site may or may not be down."

Isn't that the same thing I wrote, only in a different wording with a bit scepticism from me?

"Whether that's really an error and will be corrected soon remains to be seen, for the moment it's a fact."

Don't you find it at least a little bit weird that the system shall have gone down by a computer error in all 50 states all at the same time?

reply

So you're now claiming medicaid wont be affected?

reply

I said "remains to be seen" and "not effected" is false no matter what, there may be a correction of the error at some time, maybe even soon, but as of right now there are millions of Americans who cannot get their prescription drugs and for those who have to take them daily that's about the opposite of "not effected".

reply

Well you'd have to provide proof of your statement. Because according to the white house site your comments are a lie. So unless you can provide verifiable proof we are done here.

reply

I gave you the proof, you declared it invalid without any evidence that it would in fact be invalid, there's nothing further I can do.
I don't even want to, ignorance cannot be overcome.

Ahhhh, wait, yes, there is something else I can do and will do right now, I'll put another advice resistant fool on ignore.

reply

Once again, the white house site proves you wrong.

reply

I would think the WH site is more reliable than CNBC.

reply

He knows that. His TDS wont allow him any rational thought.

reply

Isn't that the same thing I wrote, only in a different wording with a bit scepticism from me?

Well, no . There is a huge difference between

"We're having some technical issues and the website is temporarily unavailable"
and
"We have shut down the medicaid system permanently"

I think clown baby is postulating that there is a current website outage that is completely unrelated to any changes in government rules / regs / laws

reply

Thanks for answering, i thought I was i was misunderstanding it.
So can other people in his party overthrow his decision then?

reply

No they cannot, because ultimately Trump has to sign the papers releasing the money and if he doesn't there's no way around it.
It's political suicide because it turns the members of his own party against him, but that doesn't have to concern him unless he really thinks he could get a 3rd term.

reply

Blimey. Thanks for explaining it clearly for me.

reply

And this is precisely why I didn’t vote for Trump. While I fully support the good he’s doing with deportation and the woke purge, I knew he couldn’t be trusted when it comes to protecting the poor, working-class people, seniors and the disabled. These groups rely on these programs for medical care, and freezing the funds is despicable. I hope it gets resolved soon; otherwise, I hope his supporters are ready to rise up and make sure he understands they won’t stand for it.

reply

Can I ask about the deportations please?

Are people being detained in work places/at home etc, or are these people who are already in prison and so, easily accessible to the authorities?

Is it true that there are cash rewards for reporting undocumented people?

reply

People are being pursued everywhere — at home, at work. Ironically, here in Chicago, prison is the one place they aren’t being taken from because the city refuses to cooperate with federal authorities, considering itself a sanctuary city. But in cities that do cooperate, jails and prisons are probably the easiest places to detain people. It requires the least manpower and is far safer and more efficient for deportation.

As for cash rewards, I’m not sure. There might be some. I do know there’s a hotline you can call to report illegal immigrants.

reply

They must finish their prison sentence before being released to ICE.

reply

[deleted]

Not only Medicaid is affected. Also, school programs for poor kids like Headstart.

reply

On YT some people have compared the effective results of this to the content of Project 2025 and it's an exact match, fully intended to be as it is, with the exception that they didn't anticipate judges declaring this unconstitutional and putting the money freeze temporarily on hold until a higher court can make a final decision.
Subsequent Medicaid payments have been resumed after a federal judge has put the freeze on hold and as expected Republicans now claim it was all just an "outage" and they have "fixed" it.
