Does anyone think that property tax is unconstitutional?

This isn't really political, but it could get that way in the responses. Anyway, the fact that people work 25+ years to pay off their house but still have to pay a yearly tax means that we never truly own our own house. It sounds like housing should be a basic human right once you paid it off. Property tax almost sounds like you're paying the government for the privilege of using their land.

Yes. It’s just another way to tax people on money they’ve already been taxed on.

Utility services are all paid for separately.

City and state taxes are paid separately.

The one good aspect of property tax is it’s a more fair tax as far as taxing people based on their wealth. As far as I know there are no loop holes to get you out of paying property taxes.

The best system though is a consumption tax. But that would neuter govt power completely. They use the tax code to control people.

City and state taxes are paid separately.

That's why I think that if your house is paid off, you should own it and the government can't do anything about it. I'm still going to have to pay taxes for things I purchase often like food. No one should have to worry about losing their home when it's already been covered. We're constant slaves to the government.

reply

you never own your house, you are always leasing it from the government regardless if you have a mortgage or not

reply

Unfortunately correct.

If your property didn't appreciate dramatically, you might have a point. But in any case, otherwise - you'd have to fund your schools, police, fire, roads, etc., simply from sales tax - which shifts the tax burden onto the poor, who SPEND the vast part of the wages they earn, apart from rent, away from the RETAINED and APPRECIATING wealth of home owners.

That's how I see it, bro. Home-owners are vested. And are rewarded. And are taxed. Renters pay property tax indirectly by ever increasing rents on property ever increasing in value.

reply

I find something unethical about something as expensive and necessary as a house being paid for, and it can be taken away from you. Paying property tax means that you never really own it and are technically always paying a yearly rent.

reply

You think that's bad? For the majority of American history the only people who could vote were people who owned homes and businesses. It wasn't til around the 20th century that everyone could vote. Also in my area of Southern Illinois property taxes are the only thing keeping our local public schools open thanks to the state not giving the schools their due money.

reply

Politicians: "vote for us so we can fuck you."

reply

And my state's mostly run by democrats.

Taxation is theft.

Taxation is extortion.

Taxation is a scam.

Taxation is slavery.

Taxation is rooted in Marxism.

reply

Tax is needed for public services. Who else is going to pay to get our roads fixed or patrol or streets to Kae sure it's safe. I just believe property tax goes too far.

reply

A deceptive lie by the establishment to brainwash the population into complying.

reply

Sigh, more crybaby bullshit from the usual suspects.

"WAAAAAHHHHHH I don't want to contribute to society! WAAAAAAAAHHHHH I want to take advantage of all the benefits without giving anything back! WAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH TAXATION IS THEFT WAAAAAHHHHH TAXATION IS EXTORTION WAAAAAHHHH TAXATION IS COMMUNISM WAAAAAAHHHHH I HAVE A 7TH GRADE LEVEL UNDERSTANDING OF STANDARD SOCIAL ECONOMIC SYSTEMS WAAAAAAAHHHH MINE MINE MINE ME ME ME ME MAGA MAGA MAGA WAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!"

reply

Chill, dude. I'm only talking about this specific tax. I don't think taxation is theft. I'm also not a Trump supporter at all.

reply

Someone in here literally said "Taxation is theft," maybe they were who I was referring to?

reply

You probably meant to reply to the person above your message.

reply

No, because there are multiple replies in here from morons who all fit the same profile.

reply

Another cuck for the establishment.
