What are the real issues?

Ok, Joe is out, now it is Trump vs Harris.

For quite some time now, the AGE issue, was sucking up all the oxygen in the room, suppressing discussion of other issues.

Now we need to refocus on what is really important, ie POLICY DIFFERENCES between the two.

IMO, the two big differences are

IMMIGRATION and THREAT TO DEMOCRACY.

1. On immigration, you have Trump who wants to secure the border and deport people and Harris who's time as border czar was a complete disaster.

2. On "threat to democracy" against Trump you have the 1/6. riot, which, was not very much. Against that you have Harris who is clearly supporting the blatant use of the courts to try to interfer in the election. Harris is clearly the Authoritarian here.

3. The economy. Trump's record is better than Bidens. I think his position on trade is better. Suppressing immigration, illegal and/or legal will help wages.

That's my take on this election. What is yours?

reply

As an independent I don't have this wacky emotional connection that most of you have to either party. I just want someone to deal with the stuff that I think affects me in my daily life

-gas prices
-energy prices
-the high cost of food, clothing, and general retail .....basic inflation
-our role in wars around the world as we are currently entangled in 2 wars
-interest rates
-taxes

Immigration and abortion are triggering topics for sure. But I don't care nearly as much about those as they don't affect me and I'd say they don't affect most of Americans. Many of us live far away from the border and abortions are still attainable in this country, albeit inconvenient since Roe wade was flipped.

reply

1. Well, Harris is part of the push for "green energy", which will drive up your energy costs nicely.

2. Trump has been the LEAST interventionist president we have had in our lifetimes. HE wants to try to negotiate a peace in the Ukraine. So...

3, Immigration is importing workers to the labor pool. Employers will not raise wages significantly if they have a pool of desperate third world workers ready and willing to do the work for less.

reply

Illegal aliens have a direct impact on all of the above.

The Democrat border catastrophe lead by the border czar Kamala Harris is one of the biggest problems facing the country. It’s a direct attack on the American people. Kamala would rather lockup innocent black Americans for decades for smoking a joint. Like she did as AG of CA.

reply

I have a problem with the open border, inflation, how theres a lack of safety in major cities... well anywhere..

But lets be honest, if the nominee is kamala, and i'm still not convinced it will be. then we're gonna have 4 months of identity politics, feminism, color, race...

Policy and real problems will go out of the window and it will become all about race, sex.....

reply

Well, no doubt that's what the dems and Harris WANT.

Actual discussion of real issues, is their bane.

Hence my attempt to get the discussion on issues going.

Lack of safety in cities. That'sa good one. Harris has a terrible record on such shit, bailing out rioters.

Trump = Old + senile + low energy

reply

You seemed like that other old, senile low energy guy a week ago - what happened?

reply

Trump = Dementia Don

Ear Boo-Boo Trump. FBI not sure he was actually shot.

It does look like glass.

reply

The FBI that pushed the Russian collusion hoax (that you fell for hook, line, and sinker)? The same one that misses real terrorists because it's too busy fabricating crimes like the laughable Gretchen Whitmer kidnapping plot? The same one that lied about the provenance of the Hunter Biden laptop in order to put its thumb on the scale of a presidential election?

How gullible and subservient are you?

reply

"The Russian government interfered in the 2016 presidential election in sweeping and
systematic fashion."

"As set forth in detail in this report, the Special Counsel’s investigation established that
Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election principally through two operations. First, a
Russian entity carried out a social media campaign that favored presidential candidate Donald J.
Trump and disparaged presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Second, a Russian intelligence
service conducted computer-intrusion operations against entities, employees, and volunteers
working on the Clinton Campaign and then released stolen documents. The investigation also
identified numerous links between the Russian government and the Trump Campaign."

I read the Mueller report. You didn't.

"laughable Gretchen Whitmer kidnapping plot"
Something is wrong with you.

reply

You find it acceptable that the FBI entraps otherwise passive people into a conspiracy that involved more Feds than actual conspirators? How disgusting.

You really favor a government that is the enemy of the people. Just like every fellow traveller of historical authoritarians, you believe they'll eat you last. You'll be the most surprised of anyone when they're leading you to the guillotine or gulag.

reply

You hate America and its institutions.

reply

You're catching on, you lickspittle.

reply

You admit that you hate America and its institutions.

reply

Sharp as a cue ball, you are.

reply

Why would I read the Mueller report? There are far more interesting works of fiction to occupy my time.

reply

You admit that you hate America and its institutions which is the reason you deride it.

reply

I despise the Global American Empire and the institutions that sustain it. Make of that what you will.

reply

Ask Keelai where he/her is from. They/their programming can't handle it.

reply

Why, it lives in a charming urban neighbood of florists and craft-making artisans. Where street muscians perform at nightly block parties at which the children from a Benneton ad cavort together while their happily married, interracial parents beam adoringly at them. The succulent smells of the ethnic food trucks makes everyone's mouth water. Eventually the black, female, lesbian who serves as their city councillor shows up and everyone shares a laugh at her humerous anecdotes and lack of toxic masculinity. Open air drug users? Homeless street shitters? The usual suspects carjacking and looting? Not in Keelai's neighborhood. Fred Rogers blushes with envy.

reply

Ive been waiting for people to start using the old & senile tactic on Trump now that Biden's out. If it worked on Biden surely it will work on Trump right?

reply

Trump was already president and was a compete failure and disaster. And yes, he is old, senile, delusional, lazy and stupid. And is a twice-impeached indicted felon. Project 2025 should scare anyone with basic common sense.

reply

Reeeeee!

reply

P2025 is a fear-smear tactic.

reply

According to Kamala's speech, she wants to decriminalize border crossing and wants to implement a "smart" gun buyback program. She is a RADICAL.

NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO.

reply

My biggest concerns that Trump has said he plans to appeal on day one is Biden's so called EV mandate and he'll bring Energy Independence to America. Also Trump will end the weaponization of DOJ which has lead to the staggering number of political prisoners in jail. Those people must be pardoned and freed immediately.

reply

His Jan. 6th cult?

reply

Those people were hunted and it was all a setup.

reply

Criminals are usually pursued by law enforcement so they can be charged, placed on trial and sentenced if guilty.

Jan. 6 mob: 749 incarcerated

Continue to defend criminals including their ringleader, Trump.

reply

"All of the capitalist roaders and enemies of the party and nation were properly charged for their crimes and tried by representatives of the people! A bill for the bullet used to execute them will be sent to their families as part of the people's justice."

Politburo Standing Committee member, Comrade Keelai.

reply

They were hunted for being Political Dissenters.

reply

Agreed with all of that.

I think we want to talk about their abuse of the courts some, but I worry that too much focus on it, will lose some people, because they think it will never happen to them.

The economic and crime and immigration issues, are fuckign their lives up directly.

reply

The DOJ prosecuted Douglas Mackey for shitposting memes so it could happen to anyone. The feds could have spies on this board right now.

reply

The average American cannot be fooled into voting for the democrats anymore. They are the most corrupt political party in the history of corrupt political parties.

reply

I pray to god you are correct.

reply

Haha, I just contradicted myself on another thread. I have no idea what the average American thinks at this point. The tides of opinion have had multiple violent shifts (in one instance, literally) over the last month or so. There's so much going on, it almost seems like theater. As in, what's REALLY going on that they desperately don't want the American people to notice.

reply

The real issue is Trump is insane and shouldn’t be within 100 feet of the White House

reply

So, you admit that you are terrifed of actually discussing the issues, because you know that your parties record on the issues, and the results of your polices have been terrible for America and Americans?

reply

I admit that Trump doesn’t talk about the issues. He only lies, grifts, whines, bullies and insults, and shouldn’t even be allowed in DC

reply

You want to forbid the frontrunner candidate from being allowed in the Capitol?

What other public spaces do you want to deny him the right to be?

Do you think that he should be denied the right to speech?

reply

He can do whatever he wants except POTUS

reply

You don't really believe that. You are walking it back becasue you realize how bad what you really want, looked when I drew attention to it.

YOu people are using the power of the state to try to arrest your political enemy.

That is the text book definition of tryanny and oppression.

reply

Gimme a break….that knucklehead will continue to say and do whatever he wants EXCEPT win in November.

reply

Do you support the right to a speedy trial? For everyone.

reply

Crickets...

reply

Absolutely!
Why do you think Trump delayed all his trials?

reply

Irrelevant.

The statue of limitations expired. You supporting them bringing him up on those charges is you being against civil rights.

1. On immigration, you have Trump who wants to secure the border and deport people and Harris who's time as border czar was a complete disaster.

Latest news:

"July is on track to see the fifth consecutive monthly drop in migrant apprehensions along the U.S.-Mexico border and the lowest level in illegal immigration there since the fall of 2020, during the Trump administration, the internal Department of Homeland Security figures show."

Back in January:
Senior Senate Republicans are furious that Donald Trump may have killed an emerging bipartisan deal over the southern border, depriving them of a key legislative achievement on a pressing national priority and offering a preview of what’s to come with Trump as their likely presidential nominee.

In recent weeks, Trump has been lobbying Republicans both in private conversations and in public statements on social media to oppose the border compromise being delicately hashed out in the Senate, according to GOP sources familiar with the conversations – in part because he wants to campaign on the issue this November and doesn’t want President Joe Biden to score a victory in an area where he is politically vulnerable.

Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell acknowledged in a private meeting on Wednesday that Trump’s animosity toward the yet-to-be-released border deal puts Republicans in a serious bind as they try to move forward on the already complex issue. For weeks, Republicans have been warning that Trump’s opposition could blow up the bipartisan proposal, but the admission from McConnell was particularly striking, given he has been a chief advocate for a border-Ukraine package.

Now, Republicans on Capitol Hill are grappling with the reality that most in the GOP are loathe to do anything that is seen as potentially undermining the former president. And the prospects of a deal being scuttled before it has even been finalized has sparked tensions and confusion in the Senate GOP as they try to figure out if, and how, to proceed – even as McConnell made clear during party lunches Thursday that he remains firmly behind the effort to strike a deal, according to attendees.

“I think the border is a very important issue for Donald Trump. And the fact that he would communicate to Republican senators and congresspeople that he doesn’t want us to solve the border problem because he wants to blame Biden for it is … really appalling,” said GOP Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah, who has been an outspoken critic of Trump.

He added, “But the reality is that, that we have a crisis at the border, the American people are suffering as a result of what’s happening at the border. And someone running for president not to try and get the problem solved. as opposed to saying, ‘hey, save that problem. Don’t solve it. Let me take credit for solving it later.’”

reply

1. Yeah, I don't know how the dems were playing with the numbers to get that...supposed stat, but Harris's time in control was a shit show. She is vunerable on that front.

2. Biden wanted to try to crack down on the border, FOR THE ELECTION. That is not a solution, that is letting the open border party run a line of jive on the voters, to trick them into thinking that the problem was addressed, when the moment hte voting was over, they would open the border back up.

If you find some "stats" that indicate that hte border was not a shit show during the biden years, that stat is clearly bullshit.

The mayor of nyc went from "sancutary city" to "it's killing us".
