Is a Hereditary Monarchy Acceptable If It's Non-White?

I assume so, judging by all the love for Black Panther and Bridgerton, and all the insistance that Harry and Meghan's kids should be referred to by royal titles (despite the fact that many of the same people have derided the entire concept of the monarchy/called for the monarchy to be abolished).

FWIW, I don't personally care. A Black King or Queen means no difference to me than a white one, and I'm not one of those white racists who feels 'threatened' by a Black monarch, although sadly, I do suspect that were the UK to be ruled by a Black monarch (and the expression "One you go Black, you don't go back" arguably applies here, especially if one goes by the 'one drop rule'; that said, it's also argued that Princess Charlotte, one of the RF's ancestors is Black, so maybe the *present* RF is already 'Black' πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ), there would still be people who'd argue that Britain was 'systemically racist' (which I don't quite understand; if a country is permanently ruled by a Black monarch, and in other words the power is concentrated in the hands of Black people, how can it still be racist to Black people, anyone?)

Before anyone mendaciously accuses me of 'racism', I don't personally care whether the country is ruled by a Black person or a white person, just as long as whoever is in charge rules in good faith. However, I am curious about those *white* Charles Manson types who think a monarchy is 'okay' if it's headed by a Black queen or king. I'm trying to understand the logic, unless, as I say, they're one of those weird Charlie Manson people (do I *really* all need to remind you all what Charles Manson's grand masterplan was?) I'd happily be permanently led by Black people and/or women for the rest of my life, because, like I say, I'm no racist or misogynist. The *only* thing that bothers me, as someone with a *mental illness* (i.e. a member of a marginalised and oppressed community...bear that in mind *before* you answer...), is a lack of consistency and rationality. I CAN'T STAND intellectual dishonesty, whether it emanates from the left or the right, and if I were to introduce just *one* law, it would be a law banning hypocrisy, lies and intellectual dishonesty. People should serve serious jail time for the latter.

A monarchy is only acceptable if it has no role in governance - as it is in the UK and other European and Asian countries that have one.

I agree, but a lot of people also think the UK monarchy should be abolished irrespective of its role, active or otherwise, in constitutional/political affairs.

People also liked the TV show Vikings, but I don't think people therefore think pillaging people is okay.

I'm not sure *you're* being intellectually honest here.

Firstly, the monarchy of Wakanda is clearly depicted as a *good* thing, and I presume the Black aristocracy in Bridgerton is portrayed as far more benign and hypothetically aspirational than the Vikings.

Secondly, I also gave you a real world example of people demanding that a pair of biracial children be given royal titles. Now, I'm personally pleased they have royal titles, but whilst I am definitely NO monarchist, I'm also not one of the people calling for the Royal Family to be abolished. It just seems a bit hypocritical to me.

My apologies for my intellectual honesty. Clearly, it gets me in a lot of trouble. It would be far better if I just nodded in agreement and didn't question anything.

Dude, a lot of women just like Regency Romance novels and TV shows. It's not that deep.

The Starks are also depicted as good in Game of Thrones, but they still follow a feudal structure. People end up rooting for the pirates in Black Sails, but that doesn't mean they all think high seas piracy is good.

I don't think people really care about what titles Harry & Meghans kids may have or not have.

That's fine, as long as they're NOT the hypocrites who *pretend* to be offended by hereditary wealth and the monarchy. They AREN'T *my* fucking allies. 😠 Choose a fucking lane. And stick to it.

Fair point about GOT, but the Starks were the best of a *bad bunch* of aristocrats, and, personally, I was always rooting for common-born types like Ser Davos and the majority of the Night's Watch men.

"I don't think people really care about what titles Harry & Meghans kids may have or not have."

Check Twitter (on second thoughts, don't...) Plenty of people think that it was justice for Harry and Meghan's kids to get those titles. Plenty of them would like to see Harry 'the spare' sit on the throne.

Don't you see how all this plays into modern 'progressive' hypocrisy.

We have two 'left-wing' factions. A genuine left-wing, respresented by consistent, fair-minded people like myself who seek a genuinely egalitarian world, and a post-neoliberal/Third Way faux-left, who are playing a zero-sum game with the cishet white men who've traditionally held the levers of power. These faux-leftists aren't interested in genuine equality. No, they simply want 'their time'. You even hear/read people use that term: "white men's time has come to an end. Now it's our time." Do you think this is good faith?

Look at history. Did the abolition of the Romanov monarchy in Russia herald a new era of universal fairness and equality among *all* citizens? Or was it just another way of scrapping one hierarchial system and replacing it with another, in which a Nomenklatura, or 'New Class', took over and benefited from all the privileges, whilst the rest of society languished?

...are you saying you can't enjoy TV shows based around aristocratic/feudal settings if you're a republican?

You know people did root for Ragnar in Vikings, right?

You can find all sorts of drivel on Twitter.

I am yet to be sufficiently convinced that most 'progressives' care about Harry & Meghans kids.
