Teacher Arrested After Epic 1 Vs. 1 Squabble Against His 14 Year Old Student

A teacher and student at a southeast Los Angeles, California, high school came to blows Friday afternoon, and it was all caught on video.

The footage from CNN affiliates KTLA-TV and KCAL shows Maywood Academy High School music teacher Marston Riley, 64, standing face to face with a 14-year-old boy at the front of a classroom when Riley punches him.

It’s at this point the two begin exchanging punches. The boy wound up on the ground wrapping his arms around Riley’s leg. Riley, at this point, repeatedly punches him.

The brawl ends with students and what appears to be a campus resource officer trying to separate the two, but Riley continues to pursue the student. It is not clear when the short video started and if it caught the entire exchange.

Students told KTLA the fight began after Riley asked the student to leave the class because he wasn’t wearing the proper uniform.

The boy refused, students said, and video taken by another student shows the boy shouting profanity and a racial slur at Riley, who is black.

The boy, who has not been identified, was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for moderate injuries and later released, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Riley was arrested on charges of child abuse, the release said. He posted bond and was released Saturday. Riley has an arraignment scheduled for November 30.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office later dismissed a child abuse case against a former teacher who was seen on video last year repeatedly punching a high school student who called him a racial slur.

Marston Riley, 65, was arrested in November 2018 after cellphone footage captured at Maywood Academy High School showed him striking a 14-year-old boy several times before another adult intervened.

Riley worked at the school in Maywood, a small city southeast of downtown Los Angeles, as a music teacher. He was released from jail after posting bond.

Prior to the fight, the teenager confronted Riley for allegedly saying negative things about him. The video showed the boy cursing at Riley, who is black, and calling him a racial slur.

The teen was hospitalized for “moderate injuries” after the fight and then released.

A spokesperson for the D.A.’s office said a motion was filed on Monday to drop a misdemeanor corporal injury charge against Riley and the court granted it.

The decision to dismiss the case was based on a number of factors, including Riley not having a prior criminal record and not getting into any trouble after the altercation.

The prosecutor also took into consideration “the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident,” Riley’s age, his completion of a 10-week anger management course and his being forced into early retirement from his job.

Good on the teacher for sure! If fathers were in the picture to discipline their kids like this in the first place kids wouldn't be acting so disrespectfully like animals.

Agreed... the teacher is in the position of power and needs to be setting the example for the rest of the students.

What I would like to know is what has changed in the schools that make the kids think they can get away with saying what they do....I wouldn't have even tried, and school was pretty rough in the 1990s.

It's exactly what I said. Absent fathers and the fact that parents are not allowed to whoop on their kids anymore. So many boys are being raised by single men hating moms. You get boys that throw temper tantrums and it makes them look like sissy ass bitches. This is the result when there are no consequences.

By the 3rd blow, the child was in flight or fight mode and he ended up whimpering like a frightened little girl and wrapped his arms around the teacher's leg. That's all the signs of missing positive masculinity and positive male role models.

I'm sort of noticing a pattern that this seems to happen more with POC folks. Of course using the racial word is the easy trigger word for many of them that turn them into primal you know what so I won't have to explain.

Our culture and values are changing in America because we let too many foreigners in. Lots of these immigrants come from third-world countries (my parents included) with corrupt politicians and violent upbringings. These people come here to the states still holding on to their motherland ways and teach it to their kids. The kids become older and enter the workforce with some of that third-world mentality and that is what is fucking up America. I'm probably not explaining it thoroughly but you're smart enough to pick up on what I'm saying.

It really depends on the area and the persons breaking the rules.

Adding millions of illegals whose first action in the US is breaking the law certainly doesn’t help.

Compare that with someone who lawfully waits in line, for years, respects the country to learn its traditions, values and language, and becomes a citizen legally.

The teacher showed plenty of restraint especially since the student called him the N-word 6 or 7x and another insult.

The problem is the student didn't believe anything would be done to him which he repeats. He should've been punished, too like 50 hours community service and racial tolerance courses. Discipline requires consequences not only at home, but in schools, too.

The teacher should not have been forced to retire.

I actually do agree with you but all the kids talk like that today. His use of the N-word ending with an A has nothing to do with racism. It's just how the ghetto kids talk. They learn it from rap music and N.W.A.

In that context, he was using it as an insult. He also called the teacher the B-word and said the teacher couldn't do anything so he was challenging him.

Also, teachers and other authority figures are supposed to be addressed in a respectful manner - not like he would address his lowlife friends.

I had a coworker who used the N-word frequently at work - not in a hostile way. I had to finally tell my colleague it's not an appropriate word in an office.

That's racist! Community service is akin to slavery. The kid should be allowed to express himself freely. He's being held back by the systemic racist music industry. Proper uniform? That sounds like white conformity, like learning proper English. He needs to be let loose in his natural habitat. He doesn't need any racial tolerance courses either since blacks have owned that word back and can use it without reservation amongst themselves.

I went to an Alternative School and this new gym teacher showed up and called the entire school into the gym to show us his interview on the local Fox 2 news as a health expert and wanted to make us have organized gym like a real school instead of just smoking cigarettes while playing pool, foosball and darts and after a week or two of this two students attacked him and he was fired for defending himself while the attackers didn't even get suspended. Kinda like they did to Andrew Tate.
