Why Taiwan is the biggest flashpoint in the increasingly fraught US-China relationship

A potential visit by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan comes as the U.S. has been sending new weapons to the self-governing island to help shore up its defenses against China’s increasing assertiveness toward what it views as a renegade province.

It's just a matter of time until the US goes to war with China.

China does not recognize Taiwan's sovereignty. They still consider it a part of China. They complain about any foreign nation that does recognize it or has official dealings with Taiwan. To date that hasn't stopped the other nations of the world from doing so. Probably one of the reasons that China has not attempted to take it by force.

It's such a unique geopolitical grey area. I guess wether or not Chins has a legit claim to Taiwan is irrelevant, they want it regardless.
