Trump stumbled over his own mouth and shot himself in the foot constantly, but to be fair and reasonable and in line with reality, hiding is definitely not in Trump's character. If anything, he'd interject with some piss-poor grammatically framed comments and/or tweets and inflame things even more. For example, he took a very strong stance against the 2020 riots but was criticized for it by pundits who tried to claim they were "mostly peaceful" (which even if technically true completely ignored the millions of dollars of destruction and lives ruined) while the governors in the states with cities on fire refused to take action. You can't put it all on Trump. His wrongdoing regarding the 2020 riots was his rhetoric, but there's little else he could have done other than appeal to governors to act, at least not according to "experts". Invoking the Insurrection Act was an option, but has very rarely been used, and would definitely have backfired for Trump. But it does raise the question: although he did tweet "stay peaceful", where was the strong stance against the rioting on January 6th?
