Biden calls 9mm ‘high-caliber weapons,’ suggests banning them

President Biden on Monday took aim at 9mm handguns, appearing to suggest that the "high-caliber weapons" ought to be banned.

"They said a .22-caliber bullet will lodge in the lung, and we can probably get it out — may be able to get it and save the life. A 9mm bullet blows the lung out of the body," Biden said.

"So, the idea of these high-caliber weapons is, uh, there’s simply no rational basis for it in terms of self-protection, hunting," Biden added. "Remember, the constitution was never absolute."

"You couldn’t buy a cannon when the Second Amendment was passed," Biden said. "You couldn’t go out and purchase a lot of weaponry."

"Why should we allow people to have military-style weapons including pistols with 9-mm bullets and can hold 10 or more rounds," he said.

----------

Perhaps someone should tell Biden that handguns, especially the 9mm, is not high caliber and is the most common gun owned in the United States by people on both sides of the aisle. Hell, even Kamala Harris privately owns one!! His comments were clearly stupid, but I'm glad he's finally showing his true colors and admitting he wants to disarm Americans. Damn, wait until he hears about .40 S&W, .45 Colt and 10mm!!!

Oh, and you absolutely could buy a cannon when the 2nd Amendment was written. That was debunked a long time ago by PolitiFact .

reply

Since caliber refers to the diameter of the bore of the rifle or handgun, what defines "high caliber"?
Would you consider a .300 Win Mag a high caliber?
If so, being a nine is about .36, that would, in fact, make a nine a "high caliber."

I remember way back when, Browning called their 9mm the "Browning Hi-Powered."
(Being as a .38 spec is hotter than a nine, I always tended to disagree with that.)

reply

All great questions and I think this is something someone should ask Biden because he seems incredibly out of touch on the subject. I mean, if he believes there is "no rational basis" for someone to own a 9mm handgun - - one of the most commonly owned firearms in the US - - then I'm going too assume he feels the same way about basically all handgun calibers? I really don't see the 9mm being inherently more deadly than the multitude of other calibers out there, which are obviously more powerful.

Just curious, do you agree with what he said? Should 9mm handguns specifically be banned because "there is no rational basis for anyone to own one?" Going after handguns is a BIG STEP in the gun control debate and I don't think it will be a popular one. DC tried to ban them a while back and it was ruled Unconstitutional, so I don't think he's got a leg to stand on anyways.

reply

If you've noticed, none of my replies have actually advocated for any bans; I have simply been pointing out that there is a correlation between semi automatic centerfire rifles with removable high cap mags and mass shootings.

Yes, President Biden is out of touch with this subject, not unlike Jessie Squeaky Watters and a host of others with a public forum. A nine isn't really a very hot round and its muzzle velocity would certainly not be a reason to ban it. In my opinion, the only thing that makes it a good choice in a gunfight is the availability of high cap mags . . . one of the factors that makes the AK or AR a good weapon of war.

reply

But, in reality, there will be no legislation passed that will include any type of regulation. Not with this senate (which won't change drastically in either direction) or with this SCOTUS which may well be around longer than I will.

reply

And no, I don't want to take a round from a .22 either. Quite a few years ago a trauma surgeon told me that the problem with a .22 is that it has a tendency to bounce around inside the body cavity and, in the process, does a lot of damage.

reply

And yes, I realize that a nine wouldn't blow a lung out of the body. It would more than likely result in a hemo pneumothorax (basically a collapsed lung).

reply

Yeah, fair enough and understandable. What I'm most curious about is if this comment was just something he blurted out or if its something people around him are actually intent on seriously proposing.

I think the Dems could garner some support from the other side if they would stop calling for bans and instead focus on raising the age to 21 for semiauto rifles.

Agreed. The .22 lr is a fun little plinker, but can absolutely be deadly, although its not something I would rely on for self defense. I think most believe the .380 acp is the bare minimum.

Not a fan of Jesse Watters, or any of the prime time hosts for that matter. There's only a few people on the Network I can bare to watch, but they've been losing a lot of them. Chris Wallace and Shepherd Smith come to mind in particular.

reply

A .22 LR just doesn't have the knockdown power. It might inflict fatal injury, but it might not be fatal soon enough. I am not a nine fan, but before I got a .380 I'd get a nine. For a handgun in a tactical situation I'd chooses a .40.

reply

The FBI abandoned the 9mm in the late 80's because they deemed it inadequate and many Police Departments across the country followed suit, but apparently, they've been coming back to it due to the improvements in ballistics technology. I think the FBI readopted it a handful of years ago.

Comparing the pros and cons of various calibers can make your head spin, so I think the best way to go is just get what you feel most comfortable with.

reply

Sure, that makes sense. I have heard knowledgeable people say, "I've never heard anyone say, 'Ha ha, I'm glad you only shot me with a nine.' "

reply

This was on the heels of the North Hollywood Shootout where they were met with superior firepower, so I think they wanted to arm their officers with something that would hit a little harder.

reply

Someone once told me that 9mm rounds have been deflected by windshields upon occasion. I have no practical/personal experience with shooting windshields with a nine, so I cannot attest to the accuracy of that statement.

reply

Now as far as dumb shit being said about guns, I remember after Parkland, Jessie Squeaky Watters squeaked out, "An AR15 is not military grade! I know! I've seen the bullets, they are only this long!" And Squeaky extends his thumb and forefinger about two inches while the other four retards mindlessly nodded their heads.

I've got news for you, Squeaky, the US military has been killing folks with that round since before you were born.

And then there was whoever wrote Clit Eastwood's famous line about the .44 mag being "the most powerful handgun in the world. . . ."

reply

If you ever needed irrefutable proof that he was retarded, here's your sign.

I can get online and order a friggin' cannon right now and have it by Friday. No restrictions, then or now. He's clinically stupid and 100% dependent on his constituents being just as stupid. Which most are.

reply

I came to make this very post.

Dumbass thinks he is in Canada lol.

reply

What bothered me most about the cannon comment is that he's said it before, has been corrected, yet keeps saying it.

I have some family up in New Hampshire and their neighbors have a cannon on their property, which they fire off every now and then. I suspect they'll be doing so this fourth of July.

What a lot of people don't know is that anything Pre-1899 is not a considered a firearm and can be purchased and sent to your doorstep. I own two South American Mausers for example from the 1890's and according to the US Government, they are antiques, not rifles. Damn fine shooters, they are!

reply

We have had irrefutable proof for a long time that Lil Craigy is mentally retarded.

reply

Calling a 9mm high caliber is like calling the pants shitter a legitimately elected president.

reply

Not a fan of Biden, but he is absolutely is a legitimately elected President.

reply

The US has 133,000,000 registered voters.

74 million votes were for Donald Trump.

That leaves only 59 million potential votes left.

How did Joe get 81?

reply

So you're still pushing the stolen election theory?

Biden won. Move on and focus on 2024.

reply

Yet you people are still pushing the Russian Collusion lie and it’s been over 6 years.

And the 2020 election was beyond shading and there was definite voter fraud, the only question is was it enough to change the election and the DemoKKKrats refuse to investigate it (obviously they have something to hide)

reply

You people? I never once belived in that Russian Collusion bullshit and I also don't believe the damn election was stolen!

reply

We have no way of knowing if the election was stolen because the DemoKKKrats refuse to appoint a commission to do an in-depth and common sense investigation into it, instead they are wasting their time on a couple of idiots trespassing and protesting in a building they weren’t supposed to be in.

reply

Yes, Fat Donnie was able to perpetrate a lot of voter fraud AGAIN. If he hadn't President Biden would have blown him out by even bigger numbers than he did.

reply

Then why isn’t your cult actively investigating the 2020 election? They would love to have more ammunition against Trump. You have fallen for the big lie numb nuts, get out of your cult and quit letting them brainwash you.

reply

No need--everyone knows Fat Donnie cheated AGAIN, but this time he was so universally hated it didn't even matter.

reply

Everyone knows, lol that isn’t evidence you dumbass

reply

That seems to be enough evidence for you & all three of your friends who live in your trailer park.

reply

Don’t live in a trailer park, dumbass. More ignorant assumptions by you due to your prejudice and bigotry. Also that isn’t evidence but what do you care? DemoKKKrats stopped giving a fuck about evidence a long time ago.

reply

You forgot to count the dead ones!

reply

I’m a hard core communist leftwing democrat and even I know the election was rigged and Trump won.

reply

Yes, Fat Donnie rigged & stole the 2016 election, so I do not consider that a "win."

reply

Biden has no clue what he’s talking about. 9mm is the most popular round for a reason, it will stop the person trying to kill you and recoil isn’t bad. His plan is going to leave people who can’t handle a lot of recoil (mostly women) at risk.

reply

Looks like his press secretary was once again left to clean up his mess:

"He supports a ban on the sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines and expanded background checks to keep guns out of the dangerous hands,” Karine Jean-Pierre said of Biden on Tuesday. “He does not support a ban on the sale of all handguns.”

reply

What’s an assault weapon?

What constitutes a high capacity magazine?

There are already background checks so how far would his background checks go?

Also he’s against in funding extra security to schools yet he’s fine having his own personal, tax payer funded security all armed with guns so his moral authority in this issue is wearing pretty thing (actually it’s non existent)

reply

I'm guessing he means most mordern semi-automatic rifles, any magazine that's holds over 10 rounds and background checks on private sales, all of which I'm against, unless we can allow private individuals to use the NICS background check system at no charge.

reply

Well that’s going to be a ban on most weapons and more specifically the ones that are best for defending yourself against an armed intruder. That would pretty much mean Glock 19’s and 17’s would be out as it is impossible to jam a magazine with less than 10 rounds in there.

And I own multiple guns (I won’t say how many) and every single gun I bought a background check was attached to it (most of them through my concealed carry permit and a very very extensive background check is required, one that takes 3 months to do).

reply

I wouldn't worry because none of this shit will get passed and if it does, let it go to the Supreme Court. Years ago they found a ban on handguns Unconstitutional in DC because they are "common use," so considering the AR15 for example is the most common rifle in the US, wouldn't it also be common use?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/District_of_Columbia_v._Heller

Mandatory buybacks will never happen in this country. Perhaps in the far away future, generations from now, new gun sales could be banned, but I believe privately owned firearms will be grandfathered in.

As for mag capacity laws, its probably one of the unenforceable laws of them all. As it, they are already widely ignored in multiple States and with the advent of 3D printers, good fucking luck lol. Large capacity mags, or as I like to call them, regular mags, were banned in New Jersey, where there are around one million gun owners and almost no one turned them in, as they were required to do by law.
https://reason.com/2018/12/20/new-jerseys-gun-owners-do-not-seem-eager/

reply

Hmmmm interesting.

reply

He said OVER 10 rounds, dodo bird.

reply

And what’s going to happen if the person being victimized needs more than 10 rounds? You don’t know anything about guns, numb nuts.

Maybe when Biden admits he was wrong to not support funding more security to schools I’ll take you seriously . I don’t know who you or Biden think you are telling someone who is fearing for their life how many rounds they need. Especially considering Diaper Joe gets tax payer funded armed security, are they going to have a limit in how many rounds they can hold?

reply

I was simply answering your question. You were concerned about or G17 or 19 not being able to handle a less than 10 rd mag. The OP suggested that any ban would be greater than 10 rounds. And there are Glock 9mm 10 round factory mags available that will function in any Glock 9mm. If you think you are going to bein firefights where you need more available ammo, practice up on your mag swaps and start carrying a couple of extra.

reply

I’ll ask again: are the tax payer funded security that the defund the police demokkkrats are given going to be limited to 10 rounds? When someone is fearing for their life it is not your business how many rounds they get nor is that for you to determine. You have obviously never been in a situation where you are under stress and fighting for your life, do you seriously think the intruder is going to be limited to 10 rounds? If you were in the situation you would want as many rounds as you can have.

Your plan is for law abiding citizens and children to die, your death cult is made of some very fucked up individuals

reply

Wow. You must find yourself in a lot of firefights. Practice your mag swaps.

reply

Never been in one but I do know a lot about firearms and having to be under pressure is a very serious matter. Just saying “practice your mag swaps” isn’t an answer you idiot, you were never in that situation nor do you have the first clue what you’re talking about. Not to mention that the criminal will never give up their “high capacity magazine” therefore won’t have to “practice their mag swap” which then puts them at an advantage to say the least. It’s not your business to tell anyone who is fearing for their life how to protect themselves.your plan and diaper joes plan is for more innocent people and more children to die.

You never answered my question, is Diaper Joe and the rest of the Defund the Police DemoKKKrats going to give up their tax payer funded armed security and instead “practice their mag swaps”? If you’re too much of a coward to answer it just admit it.

Edit: if you care so much about gun violence why has your cult ignored all of the dead bodies due to gang violence in major blue cities? (Also cities with the strictest gun laws). That’s right they don’t fit your narrative, you’re a joke as are your cult leaders.

reply

That's incredible; from your response I thought you must be a seasoned veteran of many many gun fights. Wow--I guess I've seen more action than you have. Who would have thought.

reply

That’s pretty pathetic that I know more about guns than someone who claims (more than likely falsely) that they have been in multiple gun fights.

reply

From what I've read of your posts, you are pretty much ignorant of the subject. Send me your address & I'll mail you a photocopy of my DD214. I am going to remove my SSN first, though, because I do not trust you.

reply

Ummmm no way I am sending you my address, for all I know you’ll send me a bomb. (Considering what a far left radical you are that is a very definite possibility).

reply

Whatever.

reply

You should be in prison.

reply

You should join the army.
But make sure you wait until there is a hot war going on.

reply

I’m a little skeptical because Diaper Joe will abandon me behind enemy lines as soon as it is politically convenient

reply

I am sure that Cadet Bonespurs would go on a special mission to personally save you. And you will just love all the great benefits.

reply

Diaper Joe would do everything he could to sabotage the rescue mission, because if he can’t save men he abandoned behind enemy lines then no one gets to.

reply

Also I have no intention of ever shooting up a school, so how is taking away my AR-15 going to help anything? Criminals however don’t give a damn about the law or society so what makes you think they will give them up? Will the government compensate me for taking my gun away?
