See? This is why you need to balance out the news. Left have their own agenda as well, even naming it the don't say gay bill when there was no mention of that anywhere in the bill.
This is what De Santis said. Pre-K to 3. 5-7 year olds. While I don't agree we shouldn't talk about it, I agree there shouldn't be any conversion therapy until they're old enough to make such decisions in their young teens, not younger than 13. It's like giving a kid a gun when they're 14 or whatnot which some do anyway, heh.
It's a censorship bill against LGBTQ+ discussion in schools which are not limited to early grades since the language is purposely vague. Students will have little to no confidentiality if they talk to a counselor, etc. and parents can opt their children out or sue if they're not notified which can cripple school districts financially. IMHO, it's the GOP's attempt to drive LGBTQ+ suicides higher.
You can call it the "get back in the closet" bill, but I believe "don't say gay" sounds much better. It also allows me to do this:
Meh, forget Tucker, I was merely pointing to what De Santis said which the clip purposefully provides. While I didn't real the bill myself (7 pages wall of text), I can agree there should be some confidentiality with student and counselor.
What's wrong with parents wanting to know what their kids are up to? They're the adult in the room and they have the right to make the choices for their kids until they're old enough to make their own life choices. This is in reference to the opt out part. As for the suing part, I have mixed feelings if a counselor is keeping secrets from a parent about their own child. Why do they need to talk to a counselor about that anyway? Aren't there hotlines for these things like suicide hotlines?
Huge difference between talking to a stranger on a phone for a few minutes and confiding in a trusted professional a teen can regularly see. My guess is that the hotline tells the caller to seek further help by talking to a professional.
Obviously, there are students who can't speak to their parents and reachout to teachers and counselors for help. This bill is removing their lifeline. LGBTQ+ students can't discuss or learn about themselves in sex education class. It's censorship and homophobia.
Tucker and DeSantis are playing to a homophobic base. Their justification is irrelevant. Their behavior is cruel toward young people who need support, not condemnation.
Parents can always ask their children what they're learning in school. Furthermore, there is already legislation about keeping parents informed:
Encourage teachers and administrators to keep parents informed of student progress, student programs, student attendance requirements pursuant to ss. 1003.26, 1003.27, 414.1251, and 984.151, and availability of resources for academic assistance.
This bill is about allowing narrow-minded legislators and parents to censor subject matter based on their personal prejudices. It's similar to the other legislation which censors history unless it glorifies white men.
"What's wrong with parents wanting to know what their kids are up to? They're the adult in the room and they have the right to make the choices for their kids until they're old enough to make their own life choices."
