There were "hundreds" of Americans left behind in Afghanistan when U.S. troops departed for good on Tuesday morning local time.
The U.S. military and coalition forces evacuated more than `120,000 foreign nationals and at-risk Afghans under the newly created Taliban regime over the last couple of weeks, but they were unable to get every American who wanted to leave the country before President Joe Biden's Aug. 31 deadline arrived.
This would have never happened if Trump was President.
From Biden's interview with George Stephanopoulos on August 19th:
GS: "All troops are supposed to be out by August 31st. Even if Americans and our Afghan allies are still trying to get out, they're going to leave?"
Biden: "We're going to do everything in our power to get all Americans out, and our allies out."
GS: "Does that mean troops will stay beyond August 31st if necessary?
Biden: "Depends on where we are, and whether we can get, ramp these numbers up to five to seven thousand a day coming out. If that's the case, they'll all be out.
GS: "Because we've got ten to fifteen thousand Americans in the country right now, right? And are you committed to making sure the troops stay until every American who wants to be out, is out?"
Biden: "Yes."
GS: "How about our Afghan allies? We have about 80 thousand."
Biden: "That's too high. The estimate we're giving is somewhere between 50 or 65 thousand folks total, counting their families."
GS: "Does the commitment hold for them as well?"
Biden: "The commitment holds to get everyone out that in fact we can get out and should come out. And that's the objective. That's what we're doing now. That's the path we're on. I think we'll get there."
GS: "So Americans should understand troops might have to be there beyond August 31st."
Biden: "No, Americans should understand we're going to try to get it done before August 31st.
GS: "But if we don't, the troops will stay."
Biden: "If we don't, we'll determine at the time who's left.
GS: "And?"
Biden: "And, if there are American force- if there's American citizens left, we're gonna stay until we get them all out.
Notice that Stephanopoulos is trying to coach Biden here. Stephanopoulos knows the American people want to hear Biden say that the troops won't leave until every American citizen is out. And finally, he gets Biden to actually say it.
And obviously, Biden was saying something he knew wasn't true, as his actions have proven.
And there's this from CNN's Clarissa Ward after the last military flight had left Afghanistan: "I spoke earlier on in the day with a family of four from Houston, Texas. They told me they had been going to the airport for two weeks trying desperately to get out. They all have American passports. They had gone to Afghanistan to visit the mother's family, and essentially the issue was they couldn't get past the Taliban."
nice transcript, thanks for posting. the fact is there are still Americans there who cant get out, because dementia Joe let the Country fall in 7 days.
