Do we really own anything? - Eviction Moratorium Extension via CDC

You don’t own your home. Really, you don’t own anything in this world.

When you get down to it, might makes right. Liberals can fight with conservatives, libertarians can fight with fascists, and capitalists can fight with communists until we’re blue in the face, but in the end, all philosophies, morality, and legal systems fall to the barrel of a gun.

We can talk about the Constitution and checks and balances and the Fourth and Fifth Amendments all we want, but in the end, the government can take your house from you at any time for any reason and there’s nothing you can do about it.

ie: People near the southern border can have their lands seized to build a wall.

Why are you still in your home then? Because they’re nice enough to not blow up everything for the hell of it. They find more value in your annual rent–or taxes, as it’s called–and they collect that instead of busting down your door and kicking you out.

But let’s not pretend we truly “own” anything, in the strictest sense at least.

Reminds me of the elites meeting in Davos and plotting our futures for us. You will own nothing and be happy about it.

CDC apparently now has the power to extend moratorium evictions for 60 days after expiry, meanwhile they won't extend moratorium on mortgages. If owners/landlords can't pay it off, the banks take over or investors like Black Rock will buy them out only to rent out the place themselves in big corporation style.

Only congress can make laws, not the CDC. Funnily enough though, this was a Trump-era policy.

Well don't say world. You don't own anything in this country thanks to Republicans.

A good movie to watch on this is Thrive.

And that's just on mortgages. Imagine if you own your home outright. You're still paying property taxes as rent and they can steal your house if you can't pay it. FUCKING REPUBLICANS!

I think of it as, you DO own your home, just not the land that the home is on hence the taxes etc. Land is federal land and owned by the government. I wonder how the people who fled from Britain decided this when they landed on the new world. I think it was under Lincoln that all land will be owned by the state or something.

You're right, but then again, voting for the right party, the right ideology.... would change all that. countries were property is seized and theres zero respect for liberty usually are left wing dictatorships. theres a reason why people are fleeing latin america in order to come to the US.

the problem is that america is going more and more to the left.

I have the cash to pay off my mortgage on stand by... They'll be removing me from it, when I'm a corpse.

"Funnily enough though, this was a Trump-era policy."

Nothing "funny" or "strange" about it.

It's the same thing as being a car dealer and being best friends with the mayor, fire captain, etc.
You want to get your competitor's car lot at a discount. You get your buddies to declare this and this and that unsafe, code violations, etc.
