KROGER CO. ANNOUNCES CLOSURE OF THREE LA STORES AFTER `HERO PAY’ ORDINANCE

This is what liberal (not necessarily Democrat, although they're often in alignment) policies produce. When are they going to grasp a basic understanding of not only economics, but that forced manipulation of anything whatsoever will always do more harm than good? Their hearts may be in the right place, but their heads aren't. These ideas are the product of immature thinking.

To be fair, there's a good number of establishment Republicans that go too far on the other end of the spectrum... which is why Trump was elected in 2016, and why both parties have a dismal future ahead of them if this kind of stuff keeps up.

Hopefully someone comes along somewhat akin to Trump that'll stick up for the average citizen, but who isn't orange, overtly antagonistic, doesn't kowtow to far-right (nor far-left) constituencies, and can speak with a higher than fifth grade grammar.

It's time for this country to stop the belief, a.k.a. ideology, a.k.a. bias, a.k.a. tribalism, a.k.a. groupthink, a.k.a. cultish behavior, and grow up before it all implodes. But mandates like this cause far more harm than good (and many of them do no good at all).

Their ideologies tell them you're wrong. How do you combat that?

Very good question. Slow, arduous, patient education with posts and other interactions like this in the hopes they glean just a small bit of wisdom each time they're exposed to it. But it may be beyond that approach ever making headway. Zealots are very hard to persuade once they're invested in their religious fervor and caught up in the snowballing effect of confirmation bias. If so, it'll eventually all come to a head and the backlash will start pushing things the other way (this happened to smaller effect in 2016). Already there are slightly left-leaning people, even some celebrities, who think the uber-left culture has gone too far, especially with the outlandish cancel culture events the past few months. History reveals that if people are pushed too far by oppressive movements (especially if those oppressive movements are falsely projecting victimhood themselves as a tool to aid in the oppression), they fight back.

Time will tell, but the hope is that this then trickles out to whomever they vote for.

“Cashiers, stockers, baggers and so many more have risked their lives every day since March making minimum wage to make sure we have everything we need to stay safely at home to get through this crisis,"

says the council pres,
yet in the article it's stated that average wage of grocery workers is $17.51 & $18, according to city,

minimum wage is $15 & the politicians can't even get this straight...& $15 an hour you can live on in los angeles despite what some say...

the article also states that the Hero ACT will give LBZ workers an extra $4 per hour and LA workers an extra $5 but only non-managerial positions, which will actually mean most of those workers will get paid more than entry level supervisors, assistant managers, etc...

imagine the bagger making $23 an hour while the shift supervisor is making $19.50 telling him what to do
*rolls eyes*

Yeah it's pretty insane. The child tax credit being proposed is also utterly bonkers. The $1.9 billion bill that just passed is so full of special interest pork (with only about 9% of it having anything legitimately to do with COVID relief/stimulus, making the majority of it the result of ethically corrupt deal-making, including completely unnecessary money leveraged by the teachers union) that it FAR outdoes anything of this nature in the past (Democrat, Republican, or otherwise--let's face it, they all do it, and is a massive reform that needs to happen in that space to prevent monstrosities like this latest one). But I think many of them see the writing on the wall, and items like this bill and the deluge of executive orders is them trying to shove as much in as they can before it all topples down on top of them (never mind the fact that these actions themselves will become the very thing that sparks the backlash that produces said toppling). A lot of it is also the byproduct of irrational Trump-hate. They're acting like grade schoolers.
