Are you in favor of capital punishment?
I think it's really inhumane. I know that the convicted allegedly did horrible crimes, but we should not stoop down to their level....

shareI'm in favor of capital punishment. With most of the people on death row, there is no doubt of their guilt. There are also plenty of opportunities for appeals so people end up spending thirty years on death row before they are finally executed or released.
It costs a lot of money to keep these inmates alive and that cost would increase significantly as they get older. For me, the death penalty is a good deterrent and it would save money if we could shorten the lengthy appeals process.
One thing I like about Donald Trump is his support of the death penalty. The justice dept just changed a rule that allows firing squads for federal prisoners.

There are a number of problems
-its irreversable
-the wrongfully convicted rate is about 12% (https://www.ncjrs.gov/pdffiles1/nij/grants/251115.pdf)
-a lifetime or boring maximum security seclusion is worse than a death penalty.
In theory, yes, but our justice system is ran, reviewed and executed by humans. Humans are and forever will be subject to error, and no person should lose their life due to error, which we KNOW has happened. All evidence, including video, can be misinterpreted or falsified. Since we will never have true omnipotence, I can't agree with the death penalty.
