Dammit! I Bought A New Weapon This Week A Ruger LCR 22 Mag

I locked it in the case, but now I can’t get the lock open! I can’t get the key to turn! I bought it for my up coming drive to Florida. And you anti-gun folks want us to keep our firearms locked! Truth be told...not have them at all! I hope I won’t need it before I can get the gun store to unlock it. Never can tell when I may meet up with the Black Klan (KLM) or Antifa!

I was raised with loaded rifles on the wall and handguns at the ready. I never touched them nor did my brother. If someone visited and just reached up and touched one my dad would know. He could spot a fingerprint. He kept them in pristine condition. He respected what they could do and taught us also. To me they were the same as artwork on the wall. Something to look at and walk away.

Wow, so different to where I am. Imagine buying a gun for protection on a road trip! It's hard to imagine that culture here. It seems almost dystopian!

We worry about having enough petrol and fresh underwear, not what weapon we can take with us.

I hope the gun laws are never changed here.

reply

You’re an Aussie, correct? If you had a home invasion how would you handle it? As of now my weapon is useless because I CAN’T GET THE DAMN LOCK BOX OPEN! GRR!

reply

Yeah I'm an Aussie. I guess I'd call the cops if there was a home invasion. To be completely honest with you it's not something that I spend time worrying about. I don't even lock my house most nights.

reply

What good would it do to call the cops? You and your family could be dead by the time they arrive. Don’t you think it’s rather foolish not to lock your doors at night. You do have criminals in The Down Under. Do you think they gave up their weapons when your NFA was enacted? There’s always the first time!

When we moved to a small town in Central Florida, pop. about 5,000. We felt safe moving from a big city in Ohio, Dayton. We started doing what the locals have done for decades...we left our doors unlocked when we went to bed. Then it happened! An elderly woman who lived alone had a home invasion and was murdered! I can honestly say I remember when the first murder took place in my home town in Florida outside of Orlando. We started locking our doors at night. Evil had found our town.

Be safe! Lock your doors! In 50 some years of marriage we never had a break-in. In the last 8 years we’ve had 2 home invasions. The 3 perps kicked in the door and were in and out in 5 -10 minutes. Do you believe the police would make it to your home in 5 minutes? The detective told us to continue locking our doors, but also cover the windows at night with our shades, drapes, shudders, etc.

Nah, I'm happy to not live in fear.

I'm not stupid and actually I'm quite a cautious person in most aspects of my life. I don't need to protect myself with a gun because the threat is so small that I would have a much higher chance of dying by just getting in my car and going for a drive then I would from a home invasion.

This is where I live:

Just near that bridge there. It's quiet and safe. Of course it would be different if I was in the city, I know the risk of violent attack is much higher there and I've taken the precautions I've needed to when I did live there.

Anyway, I'm happy to live in a country without a strong gun culture. For me it's comforting to live in place where the firearm-related death rate per 100,000 population per year is 0.89 rather than the frankly disturbing figure of 12.21 in the US.

reply

WOW! Absolutely gorgeous! I can understand why you feel safe. I’ve always wanted to visit the Down Under. People I know who have visited says it’s a beautiful country. Do you all ever have weather like we do, tornadoes, hurricanes? (we are waiting for some wind & storm surge from Delta) I’m aware you had severe fires recently. Australia was on fire.

reply

The gun industry has brainwashed certain people that they need to be armed to the teeth in order to protect themselves from criminals. It's all about money. The truth is that guns in America are much more likely to be used for suicide rather than self-defense.

Amazing town!

Houston is looking for a guy that killed a guy changing his tire to rob him. Its not good to look vulnerable in Houston anymore.

It’s not good to look vulnerable anywhere! I stopped my husband from wearing his MAGA hat after he started using a cane.

I would wager you’re relieved this storm is going to miss you. Y’all have been hit bad in the past few years. I live on the MS Gulf Coast, 3 counties on the gulf, 80 miles across from AL to LA. From TX to FL we are the only state on the Northern Gulf Coast which hasn’t been ravaged by a hurricane since Katrina in 2005! We have missed the bullet several times. This one, Delta, was aimed toward us. But, at the last minute a little jog to the right and we will be suffering. As it stands now Central MS will get hit.

We had a good flood awhile back this year. But here it is a town that gets shut down for a week every year from some storm or flood. But with that now don't come here acting like a tourist anymore.

reply

You and I are in the same time zone and it’s 2:00 AM I need to get some Z’s.🥱😴

reply

What a waste of money. It's like having cars in the garage to look at and walk away. They're meant to be USED!!

Speaking of which:

Nice photo...yours?

You're complaining to us about YOU buying a cheap gun cabinet?

reply

Hey you! Get the facts before getting snarky! The case was included with the gun! It also has the gun lock! So there, wise arse!🙄

reply

Next time buy a gun with a better case. Not so wise were you?

reply

What is not being wise is replying to you troll. Crawl back under your bridge! Definitely an inane statement you made. You purchase a weapon for the weapon...not the case. Geez! Now where is that Ignore button for arseholes & trolls? Hmm? 🤔 Oh! There it is! Bingo!

reply

OMG give it up and quit whining that they provided a cheap case. And yes...put me on ignore...wimp.

Depending on where you're from and/or your family guns could be a common thing or a rarity. In high school I made the mistake of telling a classmate that my dad had guns he used for hunting and the kid looked at me like I was from another planet and couldn't believe it. This was 2-3 years after Columbine so school shooting paranoia was a thing. Nothing became of it but I never mentioned it to anyone at school again. I'm good with responsible gun ownership. Lots of people own guns in every state.

reply

How times have changed! During my high school years we had a gun club. Guys would walk to school with a rifle slung over their shoulders. Not once did we fear them doing a mass shooting! It never entered our minds. Owning a rifle was a natural thing.

reply

There are rifles for pastimes like hunting. And then there are military-style weapons. totally different.

My problem is all of these weapons being sold to criminals by legal gun owners.
