The alarmist reporting on coronavirus might be the biggest scam ever

...possibly bigger even than the Russia hoax.

reply

It could be as big as influenza. Trump mentioned that he didn't know that people could die of the flu even though his own grandfather died of the flu. FYI, the influenza PANDEMIC of 1918 infected 500 million people worldwide ( 1/3 of world population ) and 50 million people DIED. There are mass graves worldwide where they buried people who died of the flu.

If it takes a year to develop an antiviral/vaccination for this, the death toll could be huge.

reply

No one knows the true number of victims. Only the most sick seek treatment. This throws off the death rate.

Imagine if only those who had complications from getting the common cold were taken into considered to calculate its death rate.

reply

Why do you suppose the last pandemic you referenced is over 100 years ago? It's because the world we live in and the way we handle these things has changed greatly.

reply

Russia collusion still a bigger scam. CV19 is just a complete joke at this point.

Today radio news headlines with 1st CV19 death in Sacramento. A person in their 90s in assisted living with pre existing conditions. That’s called someone dying of old age. But the media orgasms over it.

reply

I thought it might be a scam too, but how do you explain all of the countries being affected? Or is that fake news?

I'm so tired of hearing/reading about the coronavirus!

reply

"I thought it might be a scam too, but how do you explain all of the countries being affected? Or is that fake news?"

It's not that the virus isn't real, it's the overblown hysteria that's the "scam."
A Democrat and leftist media doesn't waste any potential ways of hurting/blaming Trump, no matter the casualties.
Russia--fail
Impeachment--fail
"Strong Democrats" running for the presidency--Huge fail
Scary virus--let's try using that to scare the hell out of people!!! Plus the ramifications of it will cause the stock market to plunge (added bonus & insurance).
When they can't use this virus anymore they'll move on to the next thing.

End result--Trump's reelection.

reply

True.

Remember when they shut down society because the Swine Flu was suppose to kill millions of us back in the 70s?

Me neither.

reply

Remember when everything was shut down over H1N1?

Me neither.

reply

The Russia investigation and impeachment weren't fails, they were decisions make by a corrupt Senate majority, just like Bush's win in FLA over Gore was a crap move by a corrupt judiciary. Trump is guilty as sin but gets away with it. A lot of dictators manage this, but not usually in the USA. It's sickening and depressing.

reply

They were fails because those were attempts to get him out of office and he's still in.
Bush was a horrible president. Gore would have been too.
Trump is not guilty as sin. You just want him to be. Also, he's not even close to a dictator. 🙄

reply

It's ridiculous. Everyone who dares watch the news right now finds themselves all spun up before the hour is over with.

I mean, my mom spent some time watching ABC news (not the best source for information on the disease either), and as I was heading out to get groceries, she tells me to take a mask along. I took it, but didn't wear it to the store, and things were business as usual over there.

I have a grandma who lives with my aunt, and due to various issues, my aunt has gotten overwhelmed and now has a special caretaker come over every day for a few hours to help out my grandma. My grandma is a lifetime tv addict (something she picked up from my grandpa after she married him), and just this past week, she got worried about her caretaker and told her not to come over, for fear of her catching the virus on her way over. My mom advised my aunt to tell the caretaker to put on a show and wear a mask, gloves, and to sterilize everything she touches, just to make my grandma feel better.

The actual statistics for this virus, versus what they're panicking about on tv, don't seem to match up.

reply

"My grandma is a lifetime tv addict. "

I had to smile at that, Amerigirl. I would have thought that it was impossible to become a television addict, because, like denatured alcohol, television has additives in it that make it poisonous to consume. They're called "commercials". :)

reply

Hehe, if you saw how much time my grandparents spent in front of the tv during the times I visited as a kid, or heard about how much they did when my mom was growing up, you'd definitely classify them as tv addicts.

However, I'm surprised grandma has anything entertaining to consume on tv nowadays. 95% of what's on tv these days is weapons-grade crap. I think she's mostly been reduced to watching gameshows, the news, and Hallmark Channel. (That last one, I blame my aunt for).

reply

"weapons-grade crap" Very apt! :)

Yes, I'd wonder that people of a certain age could enjoy any TV today. As I understand it, even the majority of Hallmark shows are in the modern style, with all the modern sensibilities.

You must buy her an "I Love Lucy" Collection for her next birthday.

reply

No. Shirley Temple. "I Love Lucy" is my aunt's forte, not my grandma's.

reply

Oh. Well, I believe you can get all of Shirley Temple's films today, too, as you no doubt know. :)

reply

The picture quality would certainly be better than what they had on my grandma's vhs tapes, and now they are all colorized :D

reply

Indeed it would! :)

But I rather expect that your grandma, if she watches those, will turn down the colour setting on her television. I certainly would. There's just something about black and white that evokes the era best.

reply

Trump's administration is weapons grade crap so what do you expect?

reply

Do you mind?! I'm having a pleasant off-topic chat here. Kindly keep your nose, and your obsession with Donald Trump, out of it.

reply

Don't worry guys, you have tests, anyone can get one. And the tests are beautiful!

Nothing to see here.

reply

Can the OP explain why Trump just banned travel from Europe if it's just a scam?

reply

Trump wanted to ban travel back in February but Chuck Schumer said it was racist

reply

I said the alarmist reporting of it is the scam.

They want the economy to crash so a senile old fart can take the WH and let lunatics run do the actual ruling.

reply

Wait.., the world is shutting down right now as I type and you say it’s because of a scam?

reply

It's called an over-reaction. A media induced panic.

The death rate for those under 65 is a fraction of what it is for those over 65.

reply

I really hate the take that since it's mainly the elderly who are dying it's not a reason for alarm. I have a couple really important people in my life over 65 and I'd greatly prefer an overreaction than an under-reaction to keep them around as long as possible. We won't be able to prevent an outbreak but we need to minimize it and spread out the number of new cases so the hospitals aren't overwhelmed if masses of folks get infected at once. By spreading out the cases of new infections, those who are most vulnerable will be able to get the care they need if they get infected. If the hospitals get overwhelmed, they will be unable to properly care for people and fatalities will go through the roof.

This thing is effecting everything right now and something really important to me was cancelled today and as disappointed as I am, I get it. This is going to spread, make no mistake about that, but we all need to do our part to help minimize it.

Someone on the general discussion board posted a really good link about this and I recommend everyone check it out: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/11/science/coronavirus-curve-mitigation-infection.html?auth=login-email&login=email

reply

Marshal, you have a brain, yes? You know what's going on, right? Why do you need to wait for the govt to tell you what to do instead of just taking precautions on your own?

How hard is it to limit your important people's exposure to the public? How hard is it to be more diligent to wash your hands? These things are all within your own control. Don't get me wrong. Everybody should be vigilant and take extra precautions to stay safe, but there is no reasons whatsoever that would've limited you in making these choices on your own an entire month ago.

reply

Go away. This isnt funny and it isn't political to me. My dad is 80 years old and unlike the flu, there is no vaccine to help prevent this. It's not as easy as just washing your hands and your oversimplifying of it is insulting to everyone who's caught it. I live in a major city and people can be carrying this for a week with no symptoms which leads me to a place where I'm afraid to simply visit my parents 40 minutes away for fear of what I may have picked up without knowing it. This spreads like crazy and keeping new cases from spiking is key to being able to treat new cases that pop up. Seriously i have no patience for attitudes like yours saying this is no big deal. If you don't want to take it seriously then fuck off and let the adults in the room deal with it.

reply

Oversimplifying it? The coronavirus is literally a cold virus. Everything precaution people take to prevent themselves from catching a cold is the same thing to prevent yourself from catching the COVID-19 strain. It's as basic as that and simple COMMON SENSE is all that is needed.

How am I insulting people that caught it? Catching a cold is such a common occurrence. It's the same thing with COVID-19 strain. What I am bitching about are people complaining about the govt not responding in time, when everybody has their own ability to protect themselves and limit their chances of exposure. Seriously, how hard is that?

As I said, which only shows your own Ignorance, extra precautions are required. However, there is no reason whatsoever that prevented you or your parents or anybody else in exercising these precautions on your own whenever you saw fit.

You are afraid in contaminating your parents? That's understandable, but how does Trump issuing a national emergency change that fact, pray tell? It doesn't.

Let the adults handle it? That's exactly what people are doing, unlike you. Grow the fuck up and take some responsibility for your own actions and be proactive. How hard is that?

reply

I didn't say a word about Trump because my message had nothing to do with the politics of this. It had to do with why this needs to be taken seriously which many aren't doing. You on the other hand are only concerned that no one hold your messiah accountable for a situation occurring in real time in the country that he is President of. So since that is what you're concerned with, I'll leave you with the words of the great Donald Trump from his November 8, 2013 tweet: "Leadership: Whatever happens, you're responsible. If it doesn't happen, you're responsible."

reply

I didn't say this isn't a serious situation. I said everybody should be vigilant and take extra precautions. Why I have to repeat myself only shows your Ignorance.

I will grant you that your post wasn't political. However, look at the topic of the thread? We are currently in this state of panic because of the media. There were no closures of events due to H1N1. Baseball wasn't pushed back. Disney Parks didn't close. Being vigilant in preventing yourself from catching a cold hasn't changed, has it?

So now since your last post was political, let's talk about it. I agree with that tweet. He's responsible for the good and the bad times regardless. Nobody wants a pandemic, unless you're dogdump and Trump is the president, but I digress. I don't disagree that things could've been done sooner and better. Regardless of all of this, none of this prevented anybody from being proactive on their own in taking their own precautions. With that said, may your parents stay safe.

reply

With that said, may your parents stay safe.

Thank you. I'm sorry for my tone, I don't like getting like that with anyone but this has become one of those topics with me. And yeah it's the politics board so I guess it's all political...have a good one.

reply

Ahem
The world shut down to an over reaction to a virus that no one is immune to?!

reply

LOL!

Disney World, Disney Land, Broadway, The Met, The NBA, The NCCA, etc. are all closing down due to this over-reaction.

reply

Yes they are. Nothing funny about it.

The Democrat Party news media has way too much influence.

I get the feeling your doggie is a boxer. Am I right?

Or one of those little short haired dogs that look like little bird dogs that yip all the time. Gay guy dogs.

reply

Is that what Alex Jones and John Solomon are pushing these days? (I know you're taking up the mantle for the loony conspiracists while krl is 'indisposed' at this time).

reply

I come to my own conclusions based on common sense.

Besides, who listens to Alex Jones? He's crazy.

John Solomon covers news the Democrat Party News wants to ignore (like exposing the 3 yr lie they pushed about Russian collusion).

50,000 people a year die from the flu in the US. Over 4,000 a month. So far in 3 months less than 50 people in the US have died. Most were over 80 with preexisting conditions.

reply

You're in denial.

reply

Out of how many cases? 20 million? Do you understand what would happen if 20 million people got COVID-19? That's a holocaust, kiddo.

Here's a good talk about it by someone who knows something.
