PEASANT GIRLS IN MAKE UP

In the peasant fishing village that is attacked by the dragon all the young
girls were not only model perfect but wore lip stick, lip gloss and heavy make up but obviously instead of hiding in the caves
were ready to fight at the end. Asking the trolls to wait while they adjusted
their make up?

And how could Peter Jackson maker of DEAD ALIVE let Alfred live?

reply

Why shouldn't they look model perfect and wear lip gloss?

Because the movie takes place in a medieval type culture and fish monger women did not wear makeup. Do you think that they should have had tattoos and dyed red/blue hair as well?

reply

Women and men in major production movies almost always wear make up.

and tans to boot.

and modern clothes.

But only if the director is targeting a thick as shyte audience.

reply

Big blockbuster movies by definition are targeting the mass audience, average people, folks who have never taken a college level history class about ancient civilizations.

In addition this is a fantasy film. Why quibble about makeup when there are magic rings, elves and wizards?

As a result, characters like peasant girls wearing make up will not hurt box office one bit but might help it.

Imo at least, BB ;-)

"never taken a college level history class"

- if the benchmark for knowing something trivial is taking a college/uni lecture in it (if you need to be TOLD that medieval people didn't wear modern makeup, that is) then I pity you for being brought up where you are.

"in addition this is fantasy film" so anything goes - a fantasy film based on euro medieval society. Therefore no modern stuff. YOUR argument says "why not include flying cars and airplanes too?"
I am not sure this is the argument you were aiming for, but you should steer clear of it now its been pointed out to you.

I'll concede your final point since it fits well with what I've said.

Additionally, the film is based on a childrens book, and children can get a free pass for not knowing obvious stuff, so theres that argument in your favour.

reply

Films such as the Seventh Seal or Becket have peasants wearing makeup.

It has nothing to do with whether something is based on a children's book.
Make up is a convention in major production films.

It isn't a matter of what is historically accurate. It is about what major movie productions do.
The tradition of using make up goes back to stage productions which has carried over to film since the silent era.
