IS NO ONE SERIOUSLY GOING TO POST ABOUT CURSED CHILD!?

Uhmm... I thought it was pretty awful to be honest. The characterizations for some characters were so badly off at times. It read like a fanfic. There are a few things I liked. Scorpius, for example, was adorable. I liked that both Harry/Ginny and Hermione/Ron's marriages are strong. But there were so many issues. The main twist is so ridiculous that it makes it difficult for me to take the story seriously and Albus is a brat, which is a problem since he is the central character.

I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. There were very ridiculous moments. I wished they would have developed Ablus more, scorpious was a welcome surprise though and I do agree with you about the marriages of the two main couples. There was a Harry\Ginny moment towards that end that I loved a lot, its when she talks about the chamber of secrets and mentions something about the boy who had everything coming across the griffindor common room and about the love she felt from him that day. I thought that was a lovely revelation.

I think there are some lovely individual moments. But some of the core stuff is quite bad. The entire concept of time turners is completely changed and I can't mention enough how much I loathe the twist. Then there are a bunch of characterization issues I have across the board.

Glad you enjoyed it, but I don't know how many people will get to see it since of course not all of us lives in London or is planning on traveling to London anytime soon.

I know I will never be able to see the play, which is why I got the book.

I read the play and didn't like it. The antagonist and her big secret ruined it for me. It's something straight out of fan fiction. Not to mention Ron's personality. Watered down to a comic relief. Worst than in the films because he served no other purpose. Among other issues.

I liked Scorpius and his friendship with Albus. Also, the messy but interesting time travel scenes.

Too bad JKR couldn't have turned this down/ fixed it even if she wanted to.

I honestly did not like this. It was average at best, but honestly pretty mediocre. It started okay and I enjoyed the nostalgia, but by the last few acts I was cringing while reading. I thought a lot of things were very forced. Honestly I don't think an adequate explanation for Albus being in Slytherin was given. I didn't see many massive Slytherin traits in Albus (although I guess I didn't see any overwhelming traits pointing him towards any house). It seems most family lines follow the same house traditions, probably because the personalities in the family are similar. Harry even says Albus is a lot like Ginny, yet Ginny is a Gryffindor... Although I can see traits in Ginny which could be counted as Slytherin traits. I honestly just thought it was a forced gimmick to say one of Harry's children ended up in Slytherin.

I also liked Scorpius being in the book but again it was so fanfiction-y with him being Albus best friend. I actually think it'd have made more sense for Scorpius to be a Gryffindor but I understand why it wasn't that way. JK never did write many sympathetic Slytherin characters and I think this was meant to make up for that a bit.

I hated angsty Albus and the entire relationship with Harry. I hated the time turner plotline and the twist. I also thought Albus and Scorpius motivations were extremely weak. Basically Albus has a crush on a girl he just met and so goes along with wanting to save Cedric. Of all the things in the past to change this just seems so random. I also find it hard to believe how easily Albus and Scorpius get the time turner. I know Harry and co also seemed to easily be able to get away with things, but they had been doing stuff like that since year 1. This is the first time Albus and Scorpius really attempt anything crazy and they pull it off with ease (well getting off the Hogwarts train and then getting the time turner, not quite as successful with the use of the time turner).

And yes some character's writing just seemed off. Ron was pretty wasted in this. I did like the Harry/Ginny interactions. At least they seemed like a compatible couple. I personally cannot rate this book/play highly. Although I would be curious to see it in person to see if my opinion changed seeing it done as it should be. Just reading it was not satisfying though. I would only really recommend the book if you are a big Harry Potter fan and just want to read it out of curiosity. I would tell them not to expect too much though.

It's funny how opinions differ though. One of my friends was raving to me about The Cursed Child before I read it which encouraged me to go out and get it. Honestly it was a let down and I don't think I will even count this as canon to the series.
