That's what I don't get about the tone of the the announcement. It's like throwing their hands up in defeat when all they did was sit back and watch it happen... If they'd put any effort into combating the inevitable trollish behavior of people on the internet, then I'd get it. But they didn't...

On one hand I'll miss it since the original atmosphere couldn't have existed elsewhere, but as far as how that ended?
