what are some obscure tunes you hear at stores/restaurants?

Not too long ago I've heard them play Rick Astley's "Cry For Help" which hasn't gotten much airplay since its initial chart run.

I heard this a few years ago in a store. Hadn't heard it in decades.

I remember being in a restaurant in Edinburgh about 15 years ago, which was playing Sigur Ros' Agaetis Byrjun as its background music. Well before the album had any kind of mainstream recognition at all. Nicest steak I've ever had, too.

Rusty chains and armoured pillows stuffed with silver pins

A muzak version of Lords of the New Church's "Dance With Me" at a Barnes&Noble.

Peter Godwin's "Images of Heaven," a forgotten, icy synth new wave sort-of hit, in a Publix grocery store, some 10 years ago.

You got the wrong guy, mang. I don't come off no banana boat.

Chicago's "You're Not Alone" which went #10 in 1989 but has gotten very little airplay since its release, heard it today at Fred Meyer.

-With the advent of Spotify, hearing obscure songs out in public is becoming more and more common. I remember I was in a toy store (buying birthday presents) and hearing LIVE versions of Joy Division on the speakers. I think someone turned on David Bowie radio. Funnily enough when Radiohead's "Creep" came on, I heard a manager ask his employee to change the station before the chorus.

-It's not obscure but I heard "All Apologies" by Nirvana at a JC Penny.

-I once heard Big Star and New York Dolls at Guitar Center, but I suppose that's not too surprising.

-Heard XTC's "King for a Day" in IHOP.

-Appropriately, while visiting a Coffee Bean I heard "Here Comes a Regular" over the radio.

Eh I don't know what 'phallocentric' means, but NO GIRLS!

I used to hear XTC's "King For A Day" at my old job a couple years ago, always liked that song a lot
