One of the biggest shocks of nominations Monday was the exclusion of huge box office hit Frozen 2 from this category. The film it is the direct sequel to was both an enormous cultural touchstone and eventually became hugely divisive largely due to its success and ever-presence. Was Frozen 2 a victim of those who got driven crazy by their 12 year old niece playing “Let It Go” over and over again?…Maybe, but it could also be argued that the film as a whole is kind of a mess. Putting a big target on a film and then letting it under-deliver in quality is liable to have some consequences.

But that movie isn’t even in the category now, so let’s take a look at the ones that are.
