Beauty and the Beast vs Aladdin

Which one of these Disney animated movies do you think is better and why?

Beauty and the Beast. I love the pop ballad version of the song of the same name and I just find the film in general to be vintage Disney. I never cared for Aladdin for it's pop culture jokes and how it has a trendy vibe to it. It might not be as trendy or as pop culture oriented as Hercules, but I never cared for Aladdin in general.

Beauty and the Beast. I think its an all around great film. And as a fellow book lover, Belle is my favorite of the Disney Princesses.

I think Aladdin would have been better if they had toned-down Genie. He is such an annoying character and the pop references kind of take you out of the story.

9.6/10 to Beauty and the Beast, 9.4 to Aladdin.

Aladdin easily. Better songs and far more entertaining.

Can you please explain why you think the songs in Aladdin are better then the songs in Beauty and the Beast?

reply

Beauty and the Beast because it's more timeless than Aladdin. The pop culture references in Aladdin have aged the film and probably not in a good way. Nevertheless, I still think some of the references do hold up though.

The romance felt better written in Beauty because we actually watch it evolve throughout the film (which is similar to how real relationships work) and the change in character development the Beast from having an aggressive, temper-throwing personality morphing him into a kinder, gentler person felt more dynamic than Aladdin's character arc. Aladdin learns to be true to himself, but he's still the same charismatic, thrill-seeking trickster at the start of the film.

The songs and musical score are some of the best in Disney's music catalog, but I give the slighter edge over to Beauty. It's more lyrical, romanticized, at times somber, and really captured the sound of classical Broadway. Aladdin's songs and score was refreshingly lighthearted with the jazzy brass rendition of "Friend Like Me", the high-tempo "One Jump Ahead", and the Arabic-sounding "Arabian Nights". However, I do prefer "Whole New World" as the better romantic ballad over "Beauty and the Beast".

Jafar was more entertaining and over-the-top as the villain than Gaston was. Also, it felt more was at stake with Jafar taking control of Agrabah than Gaston's attempt to kill the Beast.

What about that Gaston almost had poor Maurice commited to a mental asylum, just to get a chance to force Belle into marrying him? When you think about what mental asylums were like back then, that was pretty much just as evil as almost killing Beast.

Jafar was an awesome villain, I agree. But I feel that in the end, Gaston was just as evil as Jafar. Of course, Gaston's goal (getting this one particular girl to marry him) might seem to be smaller than Jafar's goal (conquering a city and getting more and more power). But still, I love to hate them both equally much.

And don't forget that Hafar had also more screen time then Gaston did as well, as most of Beauty and the Beast takes place in the castle once Belle arrives there and Gaston is back in the village.

I prefer Aladdin. It has a little bit of everything and so has more of a universal appeal. There's action, adventure, magic, romance, humor, great animation and visuals and.

In B&B everything felt a bit restrained and the focus was more on romance.

Yeah Aladin was really rooting for the underdog and you feel like your going on the ride with him.
