RESOLVED: Character Bobby Jones
I'm tried to link Bobby Jones to Bubba Lewis [playing Bobby (14)], but the interface will not let me. A data editor will have to do it if he/she would please.

Jeorj,
I suspect a staffer will have to do it. This is one of those deals where a character (for Bobby Jones, the golfer, played by an actor)tend to conflict since Bobby Jones the golfer (as an actor) also has character-role credits as Bobby Jones. Kind of a catch-22 situation.

This is one of those deals where a character (for Bobby Jones, the golfer, played by an actor)tend to conflict since Bobby Jones the golfer (as an actor) also has character-role credits as Bobby Jones. That may be the cause, but the way this is supposed to work is that (1) I click the "Update" button, (2) I follow the "To edit the character filmography for Bobby Jones" link, (3) I search for "Bobby" or "Bobby (14)" and then (4) I observe "Bobby (14)" in the results. Instead the third step has a different but equally undesirable outcome for the two query cases. If it's "Bobby", then the interface responds with "We're sorry, but you cannot add more credits for Bobby." Whereas if it's "Bobby (14)", then the results omit what I'm looking for, which is "Bobby (14)".
Kind of a catch-22 situation. I don't understand.
I submitted a publicity photo (photo 10) from "The Babe Ruth Story", for newspaper use, that had the Bambino (Ruth) shaking hands with William Bendix, who played him in the movie.
Okay, Babe Ruth (as an actor) played a character named Babe Ruth in some fictional short subject films ( the "character" page of Babe Ruth shows at least 17 different people played George Herman 'Babe' Ruth-real or fictional), but he also played the non-fictional Babe Ruth in a couple of other short subjects and one feature film.
The "The Babe Ruth Story(1948)" is filled with archive (long shot) footage of the Sultan of Swat (himself, no less) so in that film in most frames, William Bendix is Babe Ruth, but Babe Ruth is Babe Ruth in some scenes.
I marked that photo as publicity(no film source) to keep it from having a tag such as....William Bendix as Babe Ruth in "The Story of Babe Ruth" and Babe Ruth as Babe Ruth in "The Pride of the Yankees"...because Babe Ruth was not in the cast of "The Babe Ruth Story" and typing his name in (which I would have had to do) would have offered only the "Pride of the Yankees" as a choice...if I had film-tagged the photo.
Not the same as your issue.

Hi Jeorj,
I've just had a go myself and it doesn't seem to work for me either. Once the character page is live I can merge it into the existing Bobby Jones character page though.
Regards,
Will
I've just had a go myself and it doesn't seem to work for me either. O...
Once the character page is live I can merge it into the existing Bobby Jones character page though. Thanks, I suppose.
It doesn't seem like it's possible to fix this.
shareThere are also now several pages for the character Bobby Jones:
Bobby Jones
Bobby Jones
Bobby Jones
Btw, if you want this to be taken care of before the 20th (or at least if you want some feedback), you should remove the "Answered" from your OP.
Sorry Jeorj, it looks like the formatting of the character name is causing issues. I've tried to make an internal edit to fix it but please bear with me whilst the system catches up.
We've also merged the duplicated Bobby Jones character pages.
Regards,
Will
