OT: Some noirs I saw recently

Nightmare Alley (1947) - A psychological drama with decent performances, especially by Helen Walker who plays a psychiatrist. The climax could've been done better but the setup is solid.

Mystery Street (1950) - A cut and dried police procedural with a tight script. More of these please!

Act of Violence (1949) - A brilliant film, with a wonderful screenplay. You think the movie is going somewhere, but then it stops at a totally unexpected point, before actually ending up where you thought it was going, and it could never have gone anywhere else. Robert Ryan is great as the wounded man, and Phyllis Thaxter makes an impression in a very short role and Janet Leigh plays a wholesome middle-class wife with gusto, even though she appears to be very young for that role.

Criss Cross (1949) - Sadly, didn't hold my attention much, even though there's nothing wrong with this film. The beginning of the heist scene was brilliantly shot. Some of the screenplays for these noirs are truly memorable.

THE SET UP is awesome man. but very depressing and has some violent boxing scenes. but a treat for fans of noir cinematography.

Why hang on to antiquated notions like "the soil is like my mother?" - Man
